USA school holidays

Hi. I am looking to book Mexico for next February and the hotel we like is not adults only. Does America have school holidays in February like the UK? If so, does anyone know when they roughly fall?

When I was at university in the USA we had a week off in mid Feb, I think it was called presidents week? This was 20 years ago though!

Mine did. I've just looked at the school district calendar and it's 19-23 Feb this school year.

19 Feb is a national holiday (minor - Washington's birthday, so Presidents Day), so they'll probably mostly be that week if they're going to be off.

You could always put the weeks dates in you want, then search the work before and the week after too. One of those weeks will likely be a good 30% more expensive. That's your school holidays week.

the school calendar is not universal across the country. Some areas are already back in school. Others are still on summer break.

one thing that can help is to look at the Walt Disney world crowd prediction calendars. Not a perfect thing by any means and you need to read the details because sometimes the draw is an adult event like a marathon, but they help you see when lots of families will be on vacation in the United States.

Also even in our city, not every school has things like spring break and winter break at the same time. The religious schools tie spring break to Easter. Our school has it fixed in the year. So, especially in the spring, there is no one week for heavy travel, but some weeks are worse than others

New York schools have midwinter break in February which spans Presidents Day (19th Feb next year). I would avoid that weekend as Americans think nothing of flying to Mexico or the Caribbean for a long weekend.

Start of Feb you should be fine.

End of Feb I would try and be out of there by the time Spring break starts, although totally dependent on resort. You really don’t want to be in Cancun, for example, unless you like being surrounded by totally out of it drunken teenagers.
