Grand Canyon

Hi all. I am completely unfamiliar with this part of the world.

We are planning a two week trip: LA for four nights, San Diego for three nights, Grand Canyon for two nights and Vegas for three nights.

We are planning to stop overnight somewhere en route between San Diego and the Grand Canyon because it’s so far.

In terms of the Grand Canyon – where would you recommend we stay? Is Tusayan a good bet? I don’t really want to spend more than £200 a night on the accommodation for the four of us. I’m completely clueless about the Grand Canyon so I don’t even know which rim is best! Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I went in 2019 and the GC is breathtaking. No amount of research with prepare you for when you first see it.
We stayed on the South Rim which I think is best but this is an opinion. There is a plenty to do and see.
We treated ourselves and stayed in the El Tovar on the rim which was spectacular but pricey. The hotel was incredible but the rooms were a bit small and dated however when we go back we will stay there again.
Tusayan is just outside the entrance and it is about 20 minutes drive to the main part of the South Rim. Parking was a challenge though on the rim.
Tusayan has plenty of hotels and restaurants etc and is pretty good. If I couldn’t stay at El Tovar, Tusayan itself would be my choice over the other GC rim hotels.

For your stop between San Diego and the GC, I recommend staying in Prescott which is a lovely small town and then visiting Sedona which is also stunning.

South Rim is much more developed & has more to offer tourists.

Flagstaff is the obvious stop over point, after a diversion thru Sedona.

Thank you both. The trip not until next year but very excited already.
