November/December holiday

We have the opportunity of having a holiday between the beginning of November and the middle of December. It will be me, DH and DS2. Have no idea what to do or where to go... can be warm or cold but no longer than a 5 hour flight...

What would you do? What have you done? Christmassy stuff or look for a bit of warmth?

Looking for suggestions please, answers on a postcard!

I’d probably do the canaries for warm weather and a shortish flight time. If I want to be cold I can stay home.

having said that a Christmas market trip to a European city might be nice, but only if I’d also had a warm holiday.

Warmth:

Lisbon
Athens
Marrakech
Canaries - Gran Canaria or Tenerife (but all would likely be warm)
Valletta
Andalucia - Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga (city break in any or longer trip covering multiple)

Christmassy / Wintery:

Iceland
Stockholm & the archipelago
Swiss Alps
Strasbourg and the Alsace
Krakow
Berlin
Prague (could combine several Central European cities Interrailing)
Bratislava
Vienna
Lapland

I would say Canaries too. You're guaranteed some sunshine. Going myself at the end of November.

I'd go for some early Christmas fun. I love Christmas though.

Lots of markets in Berlin, Munich, Cologne (Germany does Christmas best IMO 👀)

I'm going to Malaga in December. It is a fab city and goes all out for Christmas too. Weather is often very nice, but it is hit and miss. I don't care, the place itself is not "home" and is so easy to get to.

Down the coast are Estepona and San Pedro, two of my favourite places on the Costa del Sol. They are biggish towns with a year round population, native and visitors, and the beach areas at both are stunning.
