Things to do in Gard/ Cévennes

We’re heading there soon. Any suggestions for ages 10-75 really appreciated so we can make the most of our time. We’re happy to split up some days so it’s not essential everything appeals to everyone.

I second the Petit Train de Cevennes - really lovely. But if you sit in an open carriage the smoke in the tunnel immediately on leaving the station is a bit of a surprise!

The Cevennes are really beautiful and not too touristy. An interesting history too.

Also there's the Robert Louis Stevenson connection (Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes) and the trail is very much still alive for tourists interested in retracing his steps.

The town of Florac, which is mentioned in the book, is worth a visit.
