Canary Islands- winter

Hi

Me again. I'm now thinking of winter holidays (never been away in the winter apart from Centre Parks). Is the Canary Islands good place for a but of winter sun? Is everything open then? Or do the Islands close down for winter.

Thanks!

I've been to Gran Canaria in December three times and it was lovely each time. Low to mid 20s in temperature, and everything open as usual.

Hi - been a few times to various islands over the years in winter - anywhere from November to March. Bit hit and miss with weather but it's open all year round. Even Christmas Day x

Winter is peak season in the Canaries! It’s more expensive to go then than in the summer. Definitely worth it, we started going in February about four years ago and go every year now. From my research South West Gran Canaria is warmest then, we go to Amadores.

We go most winters.
If you are used to going abroad to the mediterranean in summer then you may be disappointed as it's not blistering hot and you will get some cloud.
On the other hand you will likely get some warm sunny days and it's bliss in February to get a little blast of summer in the long winter months.
Just make sure you take a warm fleece for evenings as even on a hot day it gets dark early and can be chilly in the evening.

Always good weather when I've been in December/Christmas - not blíster hot like someone else said but certainly shorts t shirt during the day and make sure it's a heated pool if wanting to swim !

Agree with pp. Puerto Rico/Amadores area if Gran Canaria seems to have an extremely pleasant micro climate.

however, have also experienced rain at Easter in Playa Blanca in Lanzarote.

been to all the islands in winter, and the weather is usually really nice.

highly recommend Radisson Blu in Mogan. If adults only, Radisson Blu in Teguise is fab! Going back for another visit, which says it all really…!

LadyMooMoo · 09/08/2023 16:40

Agree that heated pool is required. The temps are usually in low 20’s, which is warm enough for me!

Tenerife is fantastic through winter, though busier with retirees as a lot spend longer spells there at that time .
Everything is open and weather is lovely in warm, though perhaps need a cardigan in the evening.
A heated pool is preferred though

I would have my daughters ( twins aged 12). Would you have any recommendations?

Gloria Palace Amadores is a good hotel, plenty of children there and a brilliant Thalasso spa for adults. The views are amazing.

LadyMooMoo · 11/08/2023 12:31

There is a Riu hotel in Puerto Rico and also the Radisson Blu in Mogan. Our kids are older now, so hotel recommendations for 12 year olds now out of date.

cheezncrackers · 11/08/2023 13:11

We went to Lanzarote one new year and it was lovely - about 21 degrees and sunny every day. I'd happily spend a week in the Canaries every winter.

missfliss · 12/08/2023 06:06

Glad I found this - just booked 5 days in feb half term in Gran Canaria...

I struggle with winter more snd more every year ....

tracylamont13 · 12/08/2023 06:57

I've been to Lanzarote in December and it was lovely. Temperature was low 20s.

CurlyTop1980 · 13/08/2023 00:05

Does anyone have any hotel recommendations suitable for 12 year olds.
