We've been to Greece a lot and feel like a change. I fancy Turkey but DH not so keen, is there a nice area for a first timer?

Trying to avoid long transfers, British pubs and sunbed wars.

Hotel tips gratefully received too.

Lara Beach - 10 minute transfer from Antalya airport. But not a lot outside of the resorts so AI probably a must. Waterfalls and Jeep safari great.

Side - if you're looking for more restaurants and social. We've stayed in the Pegasos world and day tripped here a few times which was about a 15 minute bus (40 min transfer ish from Antalya airport) Beautiful coastal town with boat trips and markets and restaurants, Tortoises walking along the road beside you. The ruins are amazing to see.

We're booked for Fethiye for May next year and have heard the markets are fabulous, intend to get a water taxi into Calis to try here too. Dalaman airport - 45 min direct trasnsfer

We love the Bodrum peninsula. You fly into Bodrum airport (which is actually a way north of the city annoyingly)

Bodrum itself is a lovely city and is nice for a day trip of sightseeing - Bodrum Castle, the Bazaar, Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

The main tourist resorts are:
Bitez (45-55 min transfer)
Gumbet (40-50 min transfer)

Both have gorgeous beaches and feel authentic.

There is also Ortakent (55 min), Gumusluk (1h20), Turgutreis (1h15) which are also lovely

When we next go, we’re looking at the Northern coast of the peninsula as we’ve not explored there at all. We’ve been looking at staying in Torba which is about 30 mins from the airport.

That sounds lovely too. I'm quite excited to try somewhere new. I love Greece but these all sound great.

I love Kalkan and Kas. Side is beautiful too though.

I love Turkey especially Fethiye. Antalya region is very hot and humid where it hurts to sit out but Fethiye, Marmaris and Bodrum have a better climate. Last year we stayed in Hillside Fethiye which was amazing and very child friendly. They had amazing food and it's very upmarket and not with a English profile.

Also Fethiye offers amazing day trips on boat, safaris ect.

I think as long as you avoid Marmaris, Hisaronu and Gumbet you’ll be ok. I really like Side, the beaches are lovely, lots of choice for hotels and the town centre is pretty, all pedestrianised and some ruins right outside of it to explore. I did find last time I went, it was very Russian dominated, this may now have changed.

Fethiye is a lovely town but doesn’t have a beach to speak of so if that’s a deal breaker for you perhaps consider somewhere else.

Sarigerme is quite up and coming. Mixture of large Al hotels and smaller boutique places. Only a small town really but has some good restaurants and shops and a great beach. People seem to flock back year on year so must have something about it. Bonus that it’s only a 20 mins transfer from Dalaman!

Defo need a beach and ideally adults only hotel too.

We liked Fethiye so much we went back twice and to the same hotel (and we never do that usually). As PP, lovely area, food, vibe, not too commercialised.

Scousemousey · 09/08/2023 12:59

Just looked it up, it was The Ece Saray Marina. Had a good spa, rooftop breakfast, and outside dining in the evening. Now I want to go back.

amylou8 · 09/08/2023 13:04

I've done a fair bit of the Turkish coast and Side (said sea-day) definitely my favorite.

LardoBurrows · 09/08/2023 13:13

I liked Kulkan, Kas, Side to stay and Fethiye to visit - great markets. Turkish food is wonderful.

Happywife22 · 09/08/2023 13:16

Olu Deniz absolutely beautiful area, lovely beaches and a short distance from hisaronu for great bars and nightlife.
Recommend Montana pine hotel, we went for our honeymoon and couldn’t fault it.
i love Turkey and would go back again and again.

Depending on your budget, D maris bay is also amazing and has adult only beach and barely any kids generally around the hotel compared to Hillside Fethiye which also has adult only beaches but you will see kids everywhere. But be prepared to spend ££££ at D Maris Bay.

Thank you I didn't like to ask how to say it
