Travel with a cat phobia

I suffer from severe ailurophobia and after several disastrous holidays many years ago to Spain and Cyprus and the like, I resigned myself to holidaying pretty much entirely in the UK, the US and Canada.
My friends want to go to a carribbean all-inclusive and I'd LOVE to go too. But all the reviews for every island and resort mention the cats around the pool and restaurants. Is there anywhere warm and exotic that doesn't have lots of cats!?

Ive been to Barbados six or seven times and agree no cats! Lots of monkeys though (I hate monkeys).

And sympathies, OP, it must be a difficult phobia to manage.

I can't bear cats and any mention of them in a hotel review, I'm out. I don't have a phobia though - I just really don't like them.

I have the same phobia, unexplained and very severe. I wouldn't watch a cat food advert on TV or pass by the pet food isles in shops. Before each holiday I do a massive research, involving TripAdvisor reviews and Facebook messages asking if there are cats in certain hotel and if yes how many. I know it sounds crazy but can't help it, I am terrified only seeing one. My reactions are unexpected if it happens to see a cat, including running away if standing and kicking a table and breaking all the glasses and plates when in a restaurant.

To the point, just came back from a 2 weeks holiday in Egypt and not seen one on the hotel premises. Will definitely go back to the same hotel as I was stress and worry free.

That is so similar to me @Marinam12. That is great about Eygypt! Italy was amazing for me. I didn't see any cats on the street in Rome or Pisa or in the countryside in Florence. Such a relief to just be able to relax! (and for my family too lol)

Yes, I didn't see any iin those places either. My best friend lives in Italy and I visit often, there is many around her house just outside Rimini though. Before I leave the house it's a big hassle. Seen none in most of the European capitals.

what other countries are there to visit without stray cats?

I know you posted that in Jan 2024, but It’s now doing the rounds again in Jan 2025 :D

OP, did you manage to have some nice cat free holidays since you posted this?

Edited

Did you find any countries?
