Paying to sit together on flight

Do you pay the extra to sit together? I hate flying so panic if I'm not sitting together

"Other airlines will place under 12s within arms reach but not necessarily right next to an adult in their party - easy jet is one of these airlines so feasibly there could be another adult in between you and your kids if you don't pay."

This is nonsense. They have to seat under 12s beside an adult travelling with them. So that can be next to, in front of, behind or over the aisle. It can't be with an adult stranger in between them. "Arms reach" is not a thing. And Ryanair force you to choose free seats for your kids upon booking, paying £6 for one adult seat of your choice.

Can I just say that sometimes terrible things happen and people need to get a flight in an emergency at the very last minute. I experienced this when my dad died unexpectedly and I needed to travel home within 2 hours of receiving the news with my 2 sister... one of whom was a young child. We paid for flights but couldn't get seats together as it was so last minute but were told that they would try to get seats for us together once on board. This was the most stressful day of my life and I needed to listen to people judging me for not pre booking seats whilst sobbing and comforting my younger sibling who was vomiting from the shock throughout the flight and wanting her mum who was at home with our dad.
Many years later I still remember how I felt listening to the comments of people refusing to move to let us sit together and wanting to scream that we had just lost our dad.
Please be kind and supportive of people... don't judge other people's choices without knowing their story.

I am very sorry for your loss.
You say people shouldn’t judge without knowing your story and of course if I did know your circumstances I would move but if people don’t want or don’t feel able to share such personal details then I don’t think you can expect them to move as it would be impossible to tell the difference between someone like you and a CF.

For the last 12 years, when we've flown as a family, we always have as it just makes life easier, both on the flight & the DC not worrying about whether they'll be with us or not.
If it's DH & I together, we don't as we don't mind sitting apart but experience is that we'll be sat together and so one of us is likely to have a middle seat so there's no benefit to paying.
If it's just me, I might well as I like a windows seat for short haul & an aisle seat for long haul.

After just having done an 8 hour flight with sat between 2 of my 3, I’d pay not to be sat with them!

Absolutely agree 😂

Yes myself and my husband does and if we’re booking flight only, we actually book the whole row of 3 seats so we’re not sat with a stranger or worse case someone else’s children!!

I did when I travelled as a family. Now DS is an adult and I go away with friends instead, we never pay for seats but we do the online check in the first day it opens and always get seats together.

Not now my kids are older. Didn't pay for EJ last year and we were all separated but there was an empty seat on mine and oh's rows! This year we didn't either but got sat together each way with Jet2
