Paying to sit together on flight

Do you pay the extra to sit together? I hate flying so panic if I'm not sitting together

No

Fizzology · 05/08/2023 19:52

If you want to sit next to someone, and it's important to you, then pay for seats. Otherwise you may be sat apart.

limons · 05/08/2023 19:52

If money is the issue, pay for the bloody seats and pass up on one round of the airport drinks.

It's about £35 per person per flight on BA so it'll be more than one round to pass up!

beepbeep · 05/08/2023 19:54

After just having done an 8 hour flight with sat between 2 of my 3, I’d pay not to be sat with them!

purplecorkheart · 05/08/2023 20:00

Rarely as I don't travel with young kids. I normally am not too fussed where I sit after spending much of my childhood and teenages years stuck in the middle seat!

CatsOnTheChair · 05/08/2023 20:01

Nope, but mine are big enough, and well travelled enough, to cope shorthaul apart from us.
We do online check in as as soon as it opens to try and get either a block of 3, or 2 pairs tho.
Under about 10, or nervous travellers, I'd suck it up as part of the cost.

mizu · 05/08/2023 20:02

Depends on age of kids. We didn't - thought it was outrageous to be paying that extra cost - but my DDs are 17 and 18 and weren't that bothered about sitting next to each other.

We were all seated together anyway both on the way and way back.

tinytemper66 · 05/08/2023 20:02

I do if I am going as a couple but don't bother when with friends but even though I am 2 foot and a fart, I like the aisle seat!

DappledThings · 05/08/2023 20:03

We do at the moment as DC are small. Didn't when it was just the two of us, or when I've been flying solo. I resent it really. Especially on a Tui flight when they sell themselves as so family friendly but still make you pay to sit with your small children.

Mythicalcreatures · 05/08/2023 20:04

I do for dc, as they want to but I don't for dp as we don't mind. Travel quite frequently so it adds up.

whoruntheworldgirls · 05/08/2023 20:04

Yep always, want to be sat with people i know

BarbaraV · 05/08/2023 20:05

Yes always

QueSyrahSyrah · 05/08/2023 20:06

Just me and DH, and not unless it's long haul and then we're paying for extra legroom anyway so just select them together. We wouldn't pay just to select standard seats otherwise.

Wouldn't bother me a jot not to be sat beside him on a short or medium haul flight, although we usually are allocated seats together anyway.

Different travelling with children obviously.

FirstDayOfHoliyays · 05/08/2023 20:07

No but I don't panic whereas you do

Hbh17 · 05/08/2023 20:11

On budget airlines like Easyjet, I always choose my seats when I book, and pay the extra as part of the total price. I thought everyone did this - I don't want to be faffing around at a later stage trying to get the seats I want. I even do this when flying alone. If people want to choose their seats, just pay - it's not much extra.

FirstDayOfHoliyays · 05/08/2023 20:21

@Hbh17 there's no faffing. You just check in as soon as it opens and there's loads of choice. Every time.

Russooooo · 05/08/2023 20:23

With kids, yes.
Without kids, no.

10oclock · 05/08/2023 20:25

If everyone stopped paying for seats then people would be sat together anyway, it’s ridiculous and wish everyone would stop paying so the airlines get the message. You do not pay for seats on longer haul flights, can’t see why it’s expected on short haul and the airlines can’t just allocate seats per booking or let people book for ‘free’ after spending hundreds per flight.

You do pay for seats on long haul - Tui wants an extra £400 from us going to America and I absolutely agree with you, if everyone stopped paying they'd get the message or if they only charged for like premium seats with a preference like window etc it's so annoying!

greydressinggownofdoom · 05/08/2023 20:29

I want a seat in a particular configuration so I always pay for that - and I won't move for a family.

That’s outrageous, shame on TUI! I don’t think I’ve ever paid for seats on long haul but haven’t flown with TUI.

Deathbyfluffy · 05/08/2023 20:34

I always pay, and like others I won’t move for people who don’t bother and are upset when their family is split up.

I did enjoy a recent article where the mum just left her kids in the care of the person who wouldn’t move for her - if that was me they’d learn some new words on that flight 😅

Ragwort · 05/08/2023 20:36

I haven't been on a plane for ages but having developed a DVT on a flight several years ago I would pay for an aisle seat. Absolutely don't need to be near my DH or adult DS though Grin.

LeavesOnTrees · 05/08/2023 20:36

We have never paid and have always been sat together as a family with 2 small children or just when the two of us.

I've no idea why people do pay.

I couldn't care less where I sit on the plane though (we're normally in aisle 30 at the back).

thenightsky · 05/08/2023 20:37

Once the DC were teens, then no. We all zone out with headphones on and don't really interact with each other anyway.
