City Break for One Night?

Would you do a city break for one night? Want to go to a European Christmas Market

First flight there so arrive at 1:30pm, 15 min taxi to city centre. Last flight out at 8pm. I live 45 mins door to door from the airport here.

Yeah I would, don’t see why not

reluctantbrit · 04/08/2023 09:09

We did it. Tiring but doable.

AnnaMagnani · 04/08/2023 09:16

No. I don't think any Christmas Market is exciting enough to be worth the hassle and expense.

We’re doing this in January but by Eurostar. Around 30 hours in Amsterdam - enough to go to the Van Gogh museum (my favourite), eat at two specific nice restaurants, and drink canal-side.

Yes! Can be a wonderful idea, especially with such convenient flight timings.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/08/2023 11:07

That sounds fine. You'll have probably seen all you want to of the market on the first day so can plan something else for the second day.

I'd just travel as light as possible as you'll have to carry your luggage around on the second day, so probably a rucksack. Travel in your coat, shoes you can walk in and outer clothes and just take a change of underwear, top and maybe something nice to wear in the evening if you want to go to a nice restaurant or eat in the hotel restaurant.

MissAmbrosia · 04/08/2023 11:17

Yes - I'd do that.

Ladymama12 · 04/08/2023 13:07

Yes if u have good company, the money and Christmas spirit it will be lovely like in the movies 🙏

WomanAtWork · 04/08/2023 21:09

well it is a terrible waste of CO2 to fly for somewhere one night only

could you take Eurostar train to Brussels? 2 hours from St Pancras.

I’ve done day trips to Rome several times! Totally depends on how user friendly the town you are visiting is - quick cheap transfers from port or airport, easy to get around especially on foot, ease of finding decent places to eat and drink.
If it’s cold and icy planes get delayed ( from uk) and it can be cold and miserable traipsing round.

Don’t get the first flight out. You’ll be knackered from getting up at 3am and travelling. Leave at 10 or 11 am .Book an airport lounge so you can relax have food and drinks before you take off and get excited. Check in at 3pm somewhere central so you peruse the market, have a nice dinner and bed. You can do more shopping in the morning and leave after lunch. Late flights are a pain. You are out of the hotel and “ homeless “ with your bags etc. Last flights are always delayed due to knock on effect of earlier flights. Go mid afternoon and get home in time for bed.
