Passport Validity for Greece

So off for family holiday in Greece in October. With all the Brexit changes I remembered to check expiry dates on passports - adults fine and DC1 fine - however DC2 has will have just just over 6 months when we get back (like the 6 months is about 5 days after we get home) Called travel agent and they advised that for a 5 year passport (child's) the six months is fine and and by the time we get travel home there will still be six months left not to worry. I'm inclined to not do anything based on that advice but if anyone has travelled to Greece recently and had any problems with passport expiry dates your advice would be really appreciated

Ignore the expiry date, it doesn't matter anymore. What you need to look at is the issue date, and count back 6 months from 10 years after the issue date. Passports are valid for EU travel for 10 years from date of issue however our passports sometimes have extra months tagged on if you renew early.

Although with it being a child's passport actually it might be ok as they're only 5 years.

Greece only requires three months after your return date. As long as your passport was issued less than 10 years ago, so not a problem for children.

My 18 year old son recently went to Greece with (5 year child's) passport expiring 3 months and 6 days after his return flight. It did get looked at twice when he checked his bag in but all agreed it was absolutely fine to fly and no problems entering or leaving Greece.

Ah ok I get you - so the issue date is the same date as the expiry (obvs different years) which would still make it 5 years come next April when it expires

As child passports are valid for 5 years they will always be under 10 years old on the date of travel

You only need 3 months remaining on a passport from the date of leaving Greece
