Milan Bergamo airport, landing to bus, quick turnaround...?

We land at Milan Bergamo airport at 08:55, and there's a flixbus direct from the airport to Peschiera del Garda that leaves the airport at 09:40... Is that doable? If no luggage to pick up? We'll need to do passport control, (yay, Brexit).
The next bus isn't until midday 🙃
We have other options but the direct bus would be so ideal.
Anyone have experience of the airport - is it big? Thanks in advance!

I reckon it's doable is everything goes your way - it's a compact airport and the bus goes from outside.

Hoppinggreen · 31/07/2023 19:46

It’s not huge but we landed there from Manchester last week and it was one of the longest journeys I have ever had from the plane to the terminal.
No idea why but it took around 15 minutes, maybe with Ryanair you labs in a cheap bit round the back or something
The airport itself isn’t big though

Hoppinggreen · 31/07/2023 19:46

Oh and passport control was by auto gate and very quick

FirstDayOfHoliyays · 31/07/2023 19:50

On your return journey do NOT hover in the shops and restaurants bit. Customs is a nice surprise around the corner and they don't move quickly.

I think you'll make the flixbus

PuppyPerson · 31/07/2023 20:20

Thanks everyone this is really helpful - won't we need to queue up and get a stamp rather than being able to use the auto gates, entering with UK passports (yay, Brexit)? That's been the case for me recently into Germany and Portugal.
We are also Ryanair...
There is a local bus to Brescia that leaves at 10:30 then we could get a train from there. So I'm thinking of booking ahead for the 9:40 flixbus just in case, but then I worry that we'd need to book ahead for the local bus to Brescia... Does anyone know how likely it is for that local one to be full?!

The trains are every hour from Bergamo to Peschiera anyway and you're only travelling with hand luggage. The bus goes from the airport to the station and is a couple of euros.

I would just play it by ear. The buses and trains won't be full.

HaveHadKenough · 31/07/2023 20:37

I've never found them full but have always been out of season. You can also get the bus to the station in Bergamo and get the train to Peschiera- some go straight through, some you need to change.

Zippedydodah · 31/07/2023 20:38

I think there are several trains a day from Milan Bergamo to Peschiera so would that be an option?

QuitMoaning · 31/07/2023 20:41

I flew into Bergamo on Sunday a week ago and got from RyanAir plane to the bus stops in about 25 mins including a quick toilet stop. I also had no luggage.

if the flight is on time, you should be able to catch the bus.

Hoppinggreen · 31/07/2023 20:44

Sorry, I might have used the gates because the rest of my family are EU.
I got my passport stamped after the auto gate.
I can’t check with DH as he’s out but I think that everyone was going through the auto gates though.

I think 45 minutes from plane to onward transport is cutting it fine at any airport given brexit passport control these days. I’ve taken the flixbus from Bergamo before and it took us a while to locate the stop (was about 4 years ago so maybe better signposted now). The bus from the airport to bergamo train station is frequent and so easy and there are plenty of trains to peschiera. You might make it but I wouldn’t book a ticket unless it can be refunded.

noodle80 · 31/07/2023 20:50

To be clear I wouldn’t book flixbus in advance unless it can be refunded. We booked the train in advance but the tickets are flexible.

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 31/07/2023 21:00

I'm sure I came through auto passport gates after landing at Bergamo last year

PuppyPerson · 31/07/2023 22:34

Aha ok so I can:

  • Get the 9:40 flixbus if we're there on time but I don't need to book in advance, or
  • Get the bus to Bergamo train station and then a train all the way from there which I also don't need to book in advance?
Not book anything and just turn up and wing it isn't my usual approach 😬

You arrive first thing. You've got all day to work it out Grin

Chill. And if you use the train just buy at the ticket office and validate on the platform or use trainline

PuppyPerson · 01/08/2023 08:07

I will try to chill! 😊 Good to know we can buy tickets for the train and validate on the platform.

If someone can confirm for me if I can just turn up for the flixbus and pay on board without pre-booking then that will be the final piece of my chill-out-jigsaw. I have googled but no dice.
Still scarred by landing at Heathrow airport and not being allowed on the (half empty) National Express without having bought a ticket in advance despite begging the driver to let me buy one somehow (I had a ticket for the one that was leaving 2 hours later 🤷)

I googled can I pay flixbus with the driver and the answer was yes. Plenty of transport options in the area, don't worry
