Child passport - lone parent query

I'm filling out my LO's passport form. The dad is named on the birth cert, but pre-2003, so no parental responsibility.

We split when LO was a babe. The form is asking for the father's passport number and date of issue and stuff - which I don't have. Shall I leave the whole dad bit blank? Or just his passport info? Will his details be on her passport? (I'd be peeved if they were!). Or shall I move hell and high water to find out the info - which will be a pain?

Anyone know?

Parents' detailsl don't appear on the passport but presumably you'll send birth certificate so you can't really avoid entering his name . If you don't know his details leave it out, isn't there a box for information or attach note?
