I really like Bamburgh Castle. It’s in a lovely little town and right on a gorgeous beach.

Maybe a trip to Morpeth? Or Lindisfarne?

We loved Alnwick. The castle and its gardens are wonderful and the town is full of good places to eat and drink. Warkworth is also a pretty town with lovely riverside walks and a socking great castle. We als

Craster is also beautiful and there's an incredible walk along the coast from there to Dunstanburgh Castle. You can't go wrong there really, the beaches are phenomenal.

Coquet Tea Rooms on Amble high street makes the most delicious cakes and does a very reasonable children’s afternoon tea or teddy bear’s picnic. Adult's afternoon tea is also a bargain.
Brewis tap room is a short walk out of town. The bar is lovely and craft beer brewed on site is seriously excellent. They often have street food trucks on site. It has a really friendly vibe with both kids and dogs made to feel welcome.
The walk from Amble to Warkworth Castle is a lovely route. Warkworth also has a gorgeous beach and a few places to buy drinks and an ice cream!
Northside Surf was really friendly. They offer paddle boarding and surf lessons.
On the other side of the pier there are lots of rocks which are brilliant for exploring / rockpooling.

Boat trip around the Farne Islands from Seahouses!
Cragside is also well worth a visit if you like National Trust places.

Alnwick is lovely but I really don’t get the love for barter books. Whenever we go, it’s packed, whiffy and the books are ramshackle. I get that maybe it’s the allure for some…just not for me.

Amble is glorious - don’t spend all your time travelling about when it’s lovely itself. However, agree that Seahouses, Bamburgh and Warkworth are all breathtaking.

Cragside House. Incredible massive inventors Victorian house, still has all his stuff and inventions inside!

Thank you so much everyone, these are brilliant tips!

And that's great intel about Barter Books - we might pop in if we're around but won't make it the focus of the day! We went to Druridge Bay today and it was gorgeous, but we've got 6 more days to explore!
