Armbands for swimming?

We are going on holiday soon with extended family. As it's with family a large part of the holiday will be spent at the swimming pool even though myself and my two DC, 6 and 4, don't actually swim. Obviously I am fine with being in water so long as I can comfortably stand but the kids want to be in the water, iykwim. 6yo is more cautious but wants to learn to swim (getting lessons next term). On the other hand, 4yo is completely fearless and is a bit more reckless.
Would armbands be a good option to give them the illusion of more freedom while fully supervising them? We used to have swimvests when they were little but they've outgrown them

Armbands aren’t great for learning to swim as they force an unnatural body position but they are a cheap way to make sure they can have fun in the pool and don’t take up a lot of room in your suitcase. So I’d say they’re fine for holiday especially as you’re getting on lessons when you get back. Just make sure they are fully supervised by an adult that can swim, so not you (best excuse to relax with a book ever). Have fun!

We've gone ahead with getting armbands. Not looking to use them as aids to teach them to swim just give them the illusion of more freedom/not have to completely cling to an adult constantly. And if they don't like them or don't want to really use them then they weren't expensive
