Where to try to book a European holiday for Next Week?

I remember the old days of 'bucket hols'.
I appreciate that is long gone.
But if I wanted to go to Europe next week (with 2 teens) where is the best place to look for last minute (hopefully cheap?) 'deals' please?
I do have a Hays Travel place about 10miles away but apart from that I'm clueless.
Ideally I'd go to Malta (any accom / area would be fine)
But also open to a ferry ride (Newcastle) & a few days somewhere (cheap...)

As you say last minute deals really don’t exist in the same way as they used to - but you could have a look at the late deals on Tui to see if anything takes your fancy.

cherryassam · 26/07/2023 14:21

Just had a check and EasyJet holidays and Thomas Cook also do ‘late deals’ but they’re usually not amazing.

What sort of budget are you hoping for?

medianewbie · 26/07/2023 14:41

@cherryassam £1500-2k max.
For adult, 18 y/o, 16 y/o.
Happy to do air bnb, hostel, anything.
(Probs still wildly unrealistic tho!)

Have a look on LoveHolidays - there are some deals in your price range.

Would you want to fly from Newcastle?

cherryassam · 26/07/2023 14:58

Jet2 have some holidays going from Newcastle for less than 2k next week

TokyoSushi · 26/07/2023 15:00

Love Holidays, On the Beach, Jet 2 Holidays, TUI, somewhere like that and you'll be sorted!

Wishitsnows · 26/07/2023 15:01

Try last minute.com they have a last second section for holidays in the next week or 2

Depends what you call cheap. Jet 3 have a week on Malta from next Tuesday, Newcastle airport £1875, urban valley resort and spa.

TheFairyCaravan · 26/07/2023 15:16

Turkey All inclusive with Tui. My sister has been to this hotel 3 times, she raves about it.

medianewbie · 26/07/2023 15:59

@UndercoverCop I was hoping for Malta as its our 1st time abroad. I have some family there which would be good to see (& helpful as I'm disabled)

I can travel 1-18 Aug. Also Oct 1/2 term (but assumed short notice cheaper?)

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 26/07/2023 17:04

I would suggest before booking anything for next week that you check out the weather forecast and their local news in respect of forest fires which seem a problem in a lot of Mediterranean countries. Don't know about Malta, but Greece, southern Italy and Northern Africa (eg Tunisia) to be avoided.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 26/07/2023 17:08

How are you with the heat? Malta is showing 35 degrees next week - should still be nice there in October half term (temperature wise - I don't know if they get rain then)

BarbaraofSeville · 26/07/2023 17:17

Jet2holidays have a good deals finder - put in your dates etc and see what comes up.

There's barely any vegetation on Malta so should be fine for fires. It's currently 41 degrees though

Agreed. Malta is not prone to wildfire as there is so little vegetation - it's just a small hot rock (there was a case of some tyres spontaneously combusting in the heat a week or so ago though). I'd not want to book anywhere now that is struggling - it wouldn't be fair on that countries infrastructure or a good trip.

34-38 deg (which is what my weather app says) would be fine. Higher, less so.

Costa Brava/Dorada in northern Spain can be nice if there's nothing available in Malta and you can visit Barcelona or Girona, plus waterparks, theme parks etc.
