Good towels to take for the beach?!

Help fellow mumsnetters! Last summer I saw a thread about some sort of super absorbent, easy to wash out, small to pack towels to take to use at the pool and beach on holidays? Microfibre maybe? Thought "I will absolutely buy those next summer" and now I can't remember what they were!!!

Can anyone help? What does everyone take to avoid packing four massive beach towels that take up half the suitcase? Have previously used sarongs but they are very thin.

Decathlon do good microfibre towels

I love Dock & Bay

Dock and Bay are great

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 26/07/2023 13:48

And Dock & Bay do some lovely ones, but much more expensive

Any camping shop should do small microfiber towels, mines like a regular bath towel size but packs super small and dries quick. Got my regatta one from Winfield's

microfibre towel is the type rather than a specific make. Decathlon do good ones in a variety of sizes cheaply but you should be able to get them from any sports/outdoor/walking shop but there’s no need to go for a more expensive one.

Dock & Bay, they are smooth unlike regular towels, sand doesn’t stick to them and they fold up easily and dry quickly

Hammam towels are best for the beach I think - absorbent cotton, quick drying, and they don't hold on to sand. You can buy them cheaply on ebay or amazon.

Thanks everyone for all the tip!

We use microfibre for the showers when camping but hammam towels for the beach/pool - dry quickly, don't clog up with sand, don't take up much space and can double as a sarong or shawl if needed.

You need Hammam towels. Light, absorbent, can be used as a sarong and coverup too. We live permanently near a beach and I wouldn't use anything else. We have quad size ones to sit on too

Heavy 'beach towels' are dreadful things. Lugging two kilos of towel water and sand home is appalling.
