October Celebration Destination

Hi Everyone, looking for some ideas on where to go on holiday for my 50th celebrations October next year. Will be me, DH and DDs 18 and 12. I want some luxury and relaxation but there also needs to be things to do suitable for teens and an easily bored DH so would prefer somewhere where you don’t just stay in the resort. Weather wise would prefer somewhere sunny in October but doesn’t have to be full on sunbathing weather.

Can go for 10 days max including travel time. Happy to go long haul, have done so before for a similar amount of time, but anywhere too far or remote e.g. Aus / NZ is probably unrealistic. Also New York is out as DH has chosen there for his 50th. Had considered Cape Town due to the time difference so no jet lag but DH isn’t too keen.

The budget is 8k although could possibly stretch closer to 10. Please help me with your ideas, we probably won’t do a family holiday like this again so I want to get it right.

A villa with a pool in Orlando? Or Miami perhaps?

Thailand?

Mexico? Maybe the west coast rather than the east (although have never been to the west coast) as it sounds like the Caribbean coast tends to be quite rainy. I also love Mexico City but it won't exactly be hot in October (warmer than the UK though) -- loads of museums, great restaurants, lots to do.

Brazil and Peru, being in the southern hemisphere and largely tropical, may be other options (both huge countries so you would need to consider where to go).

October is also a pretty good time to visit India.

Florida keys, gulf coast?

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a look into these 😀

We're celebrating a big birthday this October and we're going to Singapore. We're advised there'll be short sharp showers but that it shouldn't adversely affect our enjoyment.

Singapore!

Costa Rica is very good for those age kids with wildlife, ziplines, rainforest, kayaking etc and could work well. Think should be very doable in that budget.

Great suggestion, we have already been to Singapore and loved it but I could be tempted to go back. We went in October and there was torrential rain a couple of times through the night but dry and hot in the daytime.

Sounds like it could fit the bill, thanks I'll definitely do some research on Costa Rica!

Oh god sorry for that huge link!! It's a link to the Costa Rica holiday!! Might be a bit out of budget, but could give you a good starting place if you were to plan it on your own?

PinkPondQueen · 26/07/2023 19:25

Dare I suggest.... Dubai? Just thinking with your healthy budget, time of year and going for 10 nights it could be perfect, plenty to keep kids and DH entertained if you stay somewhere like Atlantis The Palm.

Yeah, I have considered Dubai due to the weather in October and it's not too long a flight. Seems to be a bit of a marmite place though and people either love or hate it....

What about Oman? Beautiful hotels. We have spent a few holidays there. Lots to do and quite a range of different things to appeal to all.

I spent a week in Singapore right at the end of October some years ago and we had minimal rain. Maybe two short sharp showers on separate days? But that lovely warmth where you don’t mind being wet! Loved Singapore, hopefully you’ll have a great time.

It wasn't my cuppa.. but then I only spent 1 night there en-route back from Australia. I did stay in a lovely hotel and saw a fair bit... but it was too much for me. I'd imagine however that a stay on the Palm at Atlantis away from the craziness would be in a different league. It would certainly have the luxury you're looking for.
