Easyjet and car seats

Hi All.

Flying with Easyjet. Our youngest is 7. We need to take a booster car seat with us but the info on the website is unclear as to whether putting the seat into the hold is only free for under 5s. (They talk about 2 items free for a child having just mentioned under 5s, but then define a child as under 16). Does anyone have any experience with this? We have emailed but keep getting shunted back to the website page, which is very frustrating.

Their website states:
For every infant or child you can bring up to two of the following items free of charge to go into the hold, in addition to your cabin bag allowance:

  • travel cot
  • pushchair
  • double pushchair
  • buggy
  • car seat
  • collapsible or non-collapsible pram
  • booster seat
  • baby back carrier.

And a child is defined as 2-15 years.

Thanks, but they are talking about children under 5 boarding early, then mention the 2 items free, in the same part. They only define children as under 16 later,so I'm not convinced.
Would appreciate feedback from anyone in a similar situation rather than getting charged some silly price for taking or hiring a booster seat

I've done this before with a 7yo, it was accepted. I think Ryanair rather than Easyjet, but they are typically even worse!! A friend also did it with kids in that tween age - she bought backless boosters at the holiday and brought them back in the hold FOC. Unsure which airline.

BertieBotts · 26/07/2023 11:34

Or maybe I used the wrong word, but NOT hand luggage. She checked the seats in.

We have taken car seats and booster seats with Easyjet - our child was 9 last time we took the booster seat. It gets put in the hold.

Flew with easyJet two days ago, brought a booster seat for our 7 year old and no problem at all, just took to oversize luggage. Have flown quite a lot with car seats etc. over the years and I had it in my mind it was two items for free for all children up to age 12, I think this is for most airlines but worth checking. Easyjet though it was definitely fine!

hello, i'm travelling easyjet with boosters for my two kids next month. how did you pack/protect the boosters for going in the hold? thanks.

Ditsy79 · 09/01/2024 13:06

We just got a bag off amazon - like the one below. There are more expensive versions available, but this one lasted us about 4 years. They're also handy for stuffing big coats etc in! JL Childress Gate Check Bag for Car Seats

@Ditsy79 @vixiet

im also looking to fly with easy jet and hire a car, would need to take car seat but we have one that lies flat - did they weigh the car seat at all or just agree it? I want to transport it lying flat as it’s easier to pack but we can also fill it with coats / nappies etc but don’t want to take the mick on packing extra in there?

vixiet · 09/01/2024 14:56

thank you @Ditsy79 that’s really helpful!

Hi,
I will travel with my 6 yrs old daughter and I called easyjet to know if her car seat will be checked in free of charge or not: I got 2 contradictory answers!!

@sillysarnies could you manage to get your car seat free of charge?

thank you all for your help, my flight is in 2 days and I need to pack🫣

sillysarnies · 24/07/2024 21:34

Hi, so we did go last year and they did check it in free of charge. It went into oversized baggage and we just had to go to the right place to collect it when we landed. But it was fine. Hope it will be the same for you.

We are flying with easy jet in a few weeks with my 3 month old. I plan to take his car seat with us. I just wanted to know how much we can get away with packing items in it and around it or if this is frowned upon?

Fran92 · 30/08/2024 15:12

@littlebopeep1991 i took two with me, a toddler one and lie flat one, both we had in large storage bags and I’d say packed them with bag that was as a big as a jumbo nappy bag and nobody batted an eye lid at it. It wasn’t ridiculously heavy nor was it bursting the bagging / out of the normal shape of the car seats. That was out of season so I suspect you’ll be ok out of season too
