Where to visit after Vancouver with 16 month old

Next August we are travelling to Whistler for a family member's wedding.

We will be staying with family near Whistler for a week, but keen to bolt on a trip at the beginning or end to make the most of the long flight. Probably another week. Could be something else in BC, Alaska, west coast of US, or something I haven't thought of yet.

Our child will be 16 months when we go, so looking for ideas for trips/destinations that would be suitable for them.

Budget is flexible, but not mega bucks.

We love nature, food and relaxing (how much can you relax with a 16 month old? We will find out!). Less interested in history/culture type trips.

We will probably need to fly back from Vancouver at the end of the trip, though not definitely.

We would love to hear your suggestions for what you'd do/recommend.

16 months won’t give a shit. Do what you want to do. Child will find the pebbles on pavement most interesting

If it’s early August I would try to do something that allows you to do salmon run/bear watching & whale watching. It’s prime season and the wildlife will be amazing.

I guess I mean, at 16 months what would we need to consider. Can you just strap them in the pushchair and crack on or does the trip need to be more centred around their routine?

Obviously they can't go hiking, but with a back carrier it could be an option.

This is our first child so we don't have a clue what holidaying with a 16 month old will be like.

I’d suggest Tofino on Vancouver Island. It’s not too far from Vancouver. More details about it and how to get there: www.tofinowhalecentre.com/tofino Crystal Cove Beach Resort is really family friendly https://www.crystalcove.ca

Vancouver Island is a good shout. Nice food, accessible nature, all good. Tofino might have fires/no water but there's loads of good places on VI.

We did it also with an 18 month old after a wedding, did a bit of a road trip but we flew into Seattle and out of Vancouver.

visited Olympic national park, mount Rainer and the islands - Victoria and sooke

(we also went further south and did mount st Helen’s but that’s quite a drive if you are starting and returning in Vancouver)

national parks all had buggy friendly routes or shorter walks we let her walk on and just parked up at lakes etc for lunch.

I'd second Tofino. The food is wonderful, as is the nature - we saw whales, bears and eagles. The beaches are absolutely pristine, i've never seen such rockpools - an amazing aarray of life including starfish in every colour under the sun! Great hiking also.

Are you me ? That's exactly what I was going to suggest Crystal cove is amazing.

If you have more time Whistler could also be a good destination. Lots of cheap condos as it's more for the winter crowd, but lovely scenery and lots of outdoor stuff to do.

Vancouver island fan - Sooke Pot Holes & Botany Bay were amazing. Tofino also lovely. Nice place to stop for a paddle about half way on the drive across the island.

Sounds like Vancouver Island is the place to go! Thank you all for your recommendations.

Tofino is probably my favourite place in the world. Have a look at the things to do and see if it appeals. We drove there and stopped at the Cathedral of trees. Amazing food too and a great ferry ride over there. Vancouver itself is a great city - loved the big park.

Another vote for Tofino. We stayed in a lovely b&b which I highly recommend. Best view I've ever had from my window.
