Looking at booking for a week next summer. Despite owning a place in Saint Ives for the last 15 years we’ve never made it over. Can someone give tips for booking a cottage or hotel? Is food extortionate?

Most produce has to be imported to the Scilly Isles but we found the food in the Co-op at Hugh Town to be reasonable - on a par with London really. There’s a wide range of cafes and restaurants, with plenty of good value options.
Personally, I’d go for a self-catering cottage because you're unlucky with the weather, there is almost nothing to do indoors apart from eat.... i can only think of one small museum on St Mary's and a handful of shops / craft workshops. However, the “stock” of accommodation is very limited, which makes booking somewhere quite difficult.

Book it quickly. Hard to get in even a year in advance.
