Toilets... do they have toilets?
How do they flush?

I need to know!

There’s a program about building the ice hotel - it’s amazing! They have bars and all sorts - but can’t remember toilets. Would be a bit cold outside though.

Tilllly · 24/07/2023 19:22

I'll have to hunt for that

I mean surely you can't have an ice toilet?!

I got married there! They have a warm log cabin type thing a few metres away which houses the toilets and changing rooms.

RightOnTheEdge · 24/07/2023 19:23

I saw that programme as well. It was really interesting.
I don't think they explained about toilets though.

I went to an ice Hotel in Romania (much cheaper than scandi ones BTW) and we had to walk to the nearby hotel for a wee

Really! Wow
How did your guests respond to that?!

So it's all ice but normal bathrooms?

I've always been fascinated with ice hotels although I hate the cold. Placemarking, hoping to hear lots of ice hotel experiences

The original ice hotel in sweden has warm rooms and cold rooms. The facilities are fine and you normally would have a night in the ice rooms and a night in the chalet style warm rooms. No need to worry about facilities. We got engaged in the ice chapel, it was very romantic. Some years ago now though!

Dildoslag · 24/07/2023 20:10

It was part of the same complex. There was only the hotel and ice Hotel on the mountain

Tilllly · 24/07/2023 20:33

Accessible only by cable car...?

Um. No.

We went to an ice hotel in Finland. Attached to the icy wall was a fire extinguisher 🤣🤣. Apparently health and safety dictated it had to be there.

Ps sorry don't remember where the loos were.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 24/07/2023 22:14

When I went to the one in Jukkasjarvi there was a main reception building with gift shop etc in it. There was a seperate cabin where you collected your inner sleeping bag. This was where the showers and toilets were.

It did mean a wander in the middle of the night if you needed a pee …..

DuesToTheDirt · 24/07/2023 22:32

I have another question - are they really slippy underfoot? Or are the floors made of something else?

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 25/07/2023 07:52

The original Ice hotel, the one on the TV is in Jukkasjarvi.

As to the slipping query. The whole of the outside is snow covered and you would be wearing appropriate snow shoes which work inside too. The ice part of the original ice hotel since 1989 has been made of ice, and is built wvery year. The shops, restaurants and chalet accommodation aren't, and are used as a hotel year round..
