Holiday destination for march/april

Looking to go abroad for the first time in the scottish easter holidays and need a family friendly hotel/destination. 1 parent 1 child.

My worry is the fine print stating some facilities are less during those times of year such as some pools shut. So i have no idea where to start. I don't want to book a great looking hotel where half the stuff is shut. Any advice much appreciated thanks.

Are you looking for a fly and flop holiday with beach + pool? Or do you want a bit of sightseeing/nearby attractions?

Singlemamax · 24/07/2023 19:32

Probably a bit of both. I am not into sunlounging all day but a good water play area for my girl to play in and make friends is what i am after really. Thanks

Kids age, budget, how far are you willing to fly would be useful.

If you are looking for open facilities and warmth at that time of year you're looking at the Canaries (Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura etc), North Africa (Egypt, Morocco, possibly Tunisia). Maybe Turkey or Cyprus.

The Canary Islands are lovely at that time of year, we regularly go in November/December or march/April and the weather is generally very good. Lanzarote is probably my favourite for a mix of beach and things to do, Tenerife is the only one we haven't been to but I expect it is similar.

Sorry, my first post was certainly a bit vague. My kid is 8. Just looking at europe really. Budget would be on the low side but my main concern is booking a holiday that will likely have most facilities still in use. Hoping some others have good knowledge of this ?

I saw a great deal but the fine print said some pools were shut in march/april time. Made me realise that it's probably the case for lots of these holiday deals that look good but a let down on arrival.

Just don't want to mess up by booking wrong!

Thank you. Do you find the hotels usually have full facilities or is it a bit quieter with less pools/kids stuff available.

I've never noticed anything that's quoted in the hotel info not operating in quieter months, there might be a kids mini disco every other night instead of every day but we don't use kids clubs etc so I don't know about that. All the pools etc are always fully open.

In early April, if you want pool / beach weather in Europe then the Canary Islands are your best bet. I’d also be checking that the hotel has at least one heated pool at that time of year.

What sort of budget are you hoping for?

greenplantspinkflowers · 24/07/2023 20:25

I've just booked to Egypt in April half term- just me and my 10 year old DS. Weather is around 27 degrees, water should be warm and there's food all inclusive deals at 5 star resorts with kids club, pool and slides for £500pp. Check it out

I would say 1000 budget which i know is low. I saw a great deat about 400pp but it had the fine print with pools being shut. I saw another hotel that advertised a big water play area but once again the fine print stated what was in the picture was closed until mid april. Unfortunately i can't go outwith the holidays as i myself work term time.

Thanks for the suggestions i will have a look. As it will be my first time abroad i thought those more experienced would be in the know with whats available during quiterer times. I must have got unlucky with the few i have looked at.

Check out On The Beach for their packages

Sounds amazing but in all honesty i think going to Egypt would be a bit scary 😬

The availability of facilities is about the weather. Pools etc should all be open in Lanzarote, Tenerife etc because it will be warm. But most outdoor pools aren’t heated so if you’re looking at Spain, for example, it probably isn’t warm enough in March/early April. Hence the hotels shut them.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/07/2023 20:32

@Singlemamax it's 'peak time' for canaries -so will be full service.

Singlemamax · 24/07/2023 20:34

Thanks guys i will specifically look at the canaries!

Check out the MYND yaiza in playa Blanca ( lanzarote) it ticks all your boxes and is lovely. it's £660 for a week from 29th March to 5th April on booking.com , nothing to pay till 3 days before you go and you can cancel at no charge till 4 days before. and book your flights separately

You can get it at £561 if you book on non refundable ( I never do that though unless I'm going somewhere last minute and already have flights booked)

gogomoto · 24/07/2023 20:47

As long as you go in school holidays there should be facilities open in the canaries. We went in term time (my kids are adults) and the kids programme wasn't running. Pools are not heated generally

JobMatch3000 · 24/07/2023 22:17

Double check that it won't actually be cheaper in the first week of the Summer holiday. If you are willing for DC to miss the last day or two of term it will be cheaper still.
