We've just come back from a week at a Yelloh! Campsite in France. Absolutely top notch in terms of kids activities etc, but things I really didn't enjoy:
- being self catered, I felt as though we cooked and cleaned up for most of the week, as we do at home. On my knees picking up cheerios from around the high chair most mornings. Supermarket runs. I considered an all inclusive hotel type holiday and discounted it because my kids are at the age where I don't think we'd see the value in terms of cost.
- the travel down. We live in the north west. Long 7 hour drive to Portsmouth. Hanging around for the ferry (at least in an airport you can shop / distract easier), overnight sailing and all that was fine on the way down but the return journey was more exhausting on the holiday come down and I dreaded it all week.
- cleaning the cabin after we left. Dealing with recycling etc.
Loved the parks, kids activities, spontaneous pool side dances etc. Also so handy being able to throw everything in the car and have all snacks, toys, bikes, games etc with us.
By next summer my kids will be 6,4 and 2. Any ideas for a July holiday which may fit the bill and avoid lots of the above. I think my max flight time would be 2.5-3hours max!!
