Have you heard from or contacted your holiday company yet? What are you thinking of doing? Need to check insurance to see if wild fires covered. Feeling really worried as our kids are so looking forward to this trip, it's the first time we've been abroad and booked it over a year ago. But obviously don't want to risk anything.

I can’t believe it would be arson . Sounds strange . Maybe to reassure tourists do they don’t abort .

99.9% of the annual Greek wildfires are “arson” this does not necessarily mean someone is going round with a box of matches starting them. It could be a discarded cigarette, disposable BBQ, or illegal clearing of scrub by farmers. Still classed as arson in Greece where activities involving outdoor naked flames are banned 1st May-1st October for precisely this reason.

Ah that makes slot more sense !

Having said that, arson absolutely does happen in hot countries. I'm in Western Australia and every time there is a particularly hot/dry spell, the arsonists pop out of the woodwork. So I wouldn't be surprised if there are shithead arsonists in Greece too.

Can’t believe people and how low they can go

Kids doing it for a thrill? Thrill of it making the news? Thrill of making Fire engines come on scene?

Hi, we’re due to fly out Friday. I’ve joined Twitter which is quite up to date if you search Corfu fire. Spoke to Jet2 today and flights going ahead and their position on Corfu is travel as normal. They did offer me that I could change flights up to 4hrs before flying but ideally the day before for a £35 fee which is useful to have in the back pocket as an option, can use flights all the way to April next year. Flights are non refundable as not in a Jet2 package so if we cancel we lose the whole lot.
Spoke to hotel owner and he said it’s fine where he is (Ipsos) although some issues with water supply. Think on balance we will probably end up going but need to speak to DH, and just make sure we have an emergency bag to grab if it all kicks off. Quite nervous but we’ve been waiting for this holiday for a year and the kids are beyond excited but don’t want to put them at risk. FCO still saying travel.

OP if you have a Facebook account join the Corfu Forum. People on there either live on Corfu or are currently holidaying there and can give the most accurate and up to date information regarding the current fires.

Who are you flying with if not Jet2? Have you booked accommodation through them?

biggreentree · 25/07/2023 14:31

So we booked through Love Holidays so they arrange flights via Jet2 and accommodation separately.
