Rhodes 6th August

I have a holiday booked with my 2 adult daughters and one of their boyfriends on 6th August with Jet2. We haven't been away since 2018 and have spent a lot of money. Flights are cancelled until 28th July at the moment. Any advice would be welcome?

Advice for what? Surely wait and see if your flight goes ahead or is cancelled. 6th August is 2 weeks away!

CaveMum · 23/07/2023 15:45

All you can do is sit tight for now and wait to hear from Jet2 on their plans. You wont be able to claim on your insurance if you decide not to go but if the operator cancels you will get a refund.

It’s not ideal I know, we’re due to fly out on 12 August with Tui though our hotel is in an unaffected area, for now.

StillWantingADog · 23/07/2023 17:11

You’re just going to have to sit it out. There is every chance things will have calmed down by then and if not you will get a refund /opportunity to change but possibly not until quite short notice.

I imaging things will be somewhat clearer by next wekeend.

Doidontimmm · 23/07/2023 17:31

There are some good Facebook groups for information

Soggysummer2023 · 23/07/2023 17:34

Have you booked a package holidays or flights and hotel separate? If it’s a package holiday then it’s more likely to be cancelled. If it is, then you will be refunded but this may take a while. I would make sure you have enough money to immediately book a holiday to a different destination and then you can use your refund to pay of the credit card. Are you staying in on of the effected areas?

DianaBarry5 · 23/07/2023 18:24

Thanks everyone, yes staying near Rhodes Town. Package with Jet 2 at our fave hotel, Elysium. Sitting right is our only option

Sorry meant to say not in the ravaged area but it's in Jet 2's hands

We're in a similar situation, due to fly out with easyjet on a package holiday to near Rhodes Town on the 1st August... some of the party have said they are very uneasy about going and want it cancelled.
If easyjet decide its safe to travel though we won't get a refund and I'm a single mum who's spent 2 years saving for this holiday🥺
I'll post again if I hear from the travel company

SJW58 · 24/07/2023 12:17

May be worth ringing Jet 2 to ask whether you could change to another Greek island, or maybe somewhere completely different, such as Majorca for the same price.

Maddy70 · 24/07/2023 15:20

Youl be fine to go. This was sent from Tui this morning enjoy your holiday

My neighbour told me this afternoon that a friend of hers is currently in Rhodes, staying near the hotel we are due to travel to on 12 August. She said they are completely unaffected in that part of the island (near Kolymbia) and that locals are imploring that people continue to travel to the unaffected areas.

That’s 8 days away - wait and see what happens, it’s a fast moving situation. It could all get under control this week for all we know. Certainly airlines which have cancelled flights (which is by no means all airlines) have only cancelled them for the next few days.

wineandsunshine · 24/07/2023 21:40

We are due to fly out on the 8th Aug to Rhodes. I've called to switch destinations and they have had to ask the 'amendments team' if we can and send a quote through.

This is via On The Beach (customer service is shite) btw. But flying with TUI.

If they quote us a ridiculous price to change then we will wait and see what happens.

MistyMorningMelons · 24/07/2023 21:45

I feel bad for all the locals losing peak time money with people cancelling.

I'd still go, just be aware of what's going on while you're there.

I think an awful lot could happen in two weeks. I’d not be cancelling or changing this far out unless you are offered a very good deal to go somewhere else you fancy. Hopefully all will be fine by then- forecast is for somewhat cooler weather by the end of this week.

blibblibs · 24/07/2023 22:56

We're booked for 5 Aug at lalysos with Jet2. We are just waiting and seeing at the moment. If there is no risk and we won't end up being a burden then we'll go and spend our money there.
If Jet2 cancel then I'm hopeful it's in enough time to book something else.

Corfu and Rhodes?

DianaBarry5 · 25/07/2023 22:36

We have messaged Jet 2 but we have to wait until 30th July which is when their flights are cancelled for to know what is happening. Meant to be flying to an unaffected part of Rhodes on 6th August

wineandsunshine · 26/07/2023 08:48

Our quote came back as an EXTRA £3k on flight charges to swap to a different destination!!

I'm not entirely sure if that was the shite tour operators cost OR TUI?!

DianaBarry5 · 26/07/2023 18:09

Just had a text from Jet2 saying holiday will go ahead and everything is fine in the north.....

We had the same msg yesterday too.
