Best Mediterranean town for family holiday

I'm looking for a two bedroom apartment with pool (can be shared) in an interesting town. Must be walking distance to restaurants but not necessarily a beach, although would be good to have one within half an hour drive. I've looked at puerto pollensa and would prefer somewhere in the Balearics or Greece. Does anyone have any recommendations of towns to look at?

Rhodes Town is stunning. Huge crusader castle loads to see and do . Beach within-5 minutes. It's absolutely gorgeous.

Almuñécar on the Costa tropical in Granada in Spain. Has a water park, castle, aquarium and parrot Park. Loads of restaurants along the very long beach front. It's shingle tho not sand.

Mention on the Cote d’Azure, almost at the border with Italy.

Thank you for the ideas, I will check them out. What I'm finding the most difficult is the accommodation. There are plenty of one bed places and studios, or villas out of town.

This is my holy grail too.... following! Specific accommodation recommendations would be fabulous!

Port de Soller in Mallorca is amazing!

How about Athens? So much history and culture in the city. Several islands that are a short boat trip from Piraeus and beaches along the coast.

I don't think Rhodes is going to be a great destination for a little while!

Nor Athens. There are wild fires raging to the north of the city.

Alghero in Sardinia.

How about Palma in Mallorca?

Chania, Crete. The old town and harbour are beautiful.

Sestri Levante in Liguria.

Massa Marittima in Italy
