Help me plan a warm Spain/Portugal end of September getaway for 3?

DD is 3 and we’re wanting to make the most of term time holidays, because of events we can’t get away until the last week of September. Looking to go for about 10-14 days.

Due to flight lengths and passport things Spain/Portugal would be our preference. We like sunny and warm but not hot.

Must haves would be all inclusive resort, child friendly, nice pools, gym and some form of entertainment. Short transfers would also be nice.

Beach nearby would be a nice plus but not a complete deal breaker.

Not too fussed about sightseeing (not planning to get a car, neither of us wants to drive or cook or clean or do laundry 😅).

Has anyone had a similar holiday they’ve enjoyed around the same time of year?

Appreciate I might be asking for the world here, but you don’t ask you don’t get!

Ideas and perspectives welcome! We’ve had a bit of a year and just want to get away and reconnect just the 3 of us.

Thank you!

The Martinhal resorts on the Algarve are lovely.

Have you got an idea of budget?

What sort of entertainment? Daytime / nighttime? For LOs or adults?

StillWantingADog · 17/07/2023 10:56

Can’t recommend a particular AI however algarve at that time of year is lovely.

had a lovely late september holiday there once with husband and a toddler ds.

Zafiro Palma Nova would tick all your boxes, plus it’s got a great splash park and playground for kids.

GetMeToThePark · 17/07/2023 11:23

@cherryassam will have a search for Martinhal thank you!

Open to different budget options really. As we don’t have a frame of reference (not been on this type of holiday before) not sure what is realistic.

Entertainment for DD really or family oriented.

@StillWantingADog lovely to hear that! I’m actually originally from Portugal and a fluent speaker so even better. Just haven’t really done a holiday as a parent there that wasn’t a family tour (very different vibe 😅)
Glad to hear it was a nice time of year, I’ve actually found middle of summer there was always a bit much for me, even when I lived there!

The Algarve is really lovely in September.

You could also have a look at Club Med Da Balaia which is right on a gorgeous beach on the outskirts of Albufeira. Has all the usual Club Med bits of kids clubs, entertainment etc.

Anantara Vilamoura is nice and fabulous service but not near the beach really and I don’t think as family friendly, although there were kids there when we stayed.

The Baleriacs are also really lovely at that time of year usually, although perhaps the weather is not quite so guaranteed as The Algarve. But the flight times are great and usually short transfers from the airport.

Royal Son Bou Family Club on Menorca is always my recommendation for families with young children. Brilliant kids facilities, gorgeous beach right next to it. But it is very much a family hotel.

Great suggestions here @cherryassam I’ll add these to my research list. Thank you!

Ikos is always suggested on here
I just priced up a holiday for September. It’s £3.5 k per person! £5/6k pp at peak times.

we are a high earning family but that sounds like an obscene amount of money to me and surely out of reach for 99% of families

GetMeToThePark · 17/07/2023 13:40

@StillWantingADog woah really?! We’re open to budgets but that is waaay out there for a 2 week holiday for us 😅

Yeah same here! Boggles the mind that anyone would find that affordable.

Usernamen · 17/07/2023 15:31

There is an Ikos resort in Andalusia that looks lovely and would fit the bill.

Usernamen · 17/07/2023 15:32

Never mind - just read your post above!

LittleMy77 · 17/07/2023 15:35

Madeira? fits all your needs, not too hot etc. We went last year and liked it so much we’re going again this year!

We stayed at Porto Bay resort who have a range of accommodation options and has lots of low key kid stuff. Loads of great restaurants, bars etc in the area

We also stayed with the same hotel chain in Algarve; didn’t love the area tbh

GetMeToThePark · 17/07/2023 16:19

@Usernamen just had a look and it’s almost £7k for 10 days flying with Ryanair. Unfortunately it’s quite a bit out of our range at the moment. Who knows, maybe if the lottery comes in and mortgage rates take a day off 😅

Just checked out Royal Son Bou @cherryassam and it looks lovely and definitely child focused. Great value too, straight into the shortlist! Great shout

Glad you like the look of it!

It’s a really lovely place, and I think the location couldn’t be better for little ones.
