AI novice thinking about Turkey at Easter

We've never been on an AI holiday, but my teen DCs have asked to go on a AI, so I've had a look and it looks like Turkey is our preferred destination.

However May half term and summer holidays are astronomical and way beyond our budget. So I'm thinking about Easter, has anyone done AI in Turkey at Easter, what was the weather like and do you have any recommendations on hotels (budget £3,000 for 2 adults and 2 teens for one week).

Thanks

We went to the Voyage Belek at Easter this year and had a fab time! Would 100% recommend if in your budget as we got it for just over £3k this year. Weather was generally sunny and about 20 degrees but you need somewhere with a heated pool. The Voyage had a heated pool plus a heated waterpark which was fabulous.

The year before we went at Easter too and stayed at Gloria Verde but the pools weren't heated and that honestly spoilt our holiday because it was too cold to swim.

Also check the hotel's entertainment programme carefully too if you like entertainment. Lots of hotels don't start their programmes until May which means the hotels are quiet but again the Voyage's started on the 1st April. Full shows indoors and outdoors depending on the weather.

You will need a light jacket for evening!

I dont think the weather is particularly warm. Better than the UK but only mid to high teens. Resorts may also be quiet. Can you go to websites like jet 2 and filter by free kids to see if you can get a better price and a better time of year?

ChicoryDip · 16/07/2023 21:05

Easter is quite early next year and the weather in Turkey at that time of year is really variable. You might be lucky with a week of warm weather but it's just as likely to be cold with rain. Unless the pools are heated they could be freezing (as will the sea).

I don't want to put you off but it's worth being realistic about how likely you are to be spending your days just lazing by the pool or beach. My advice would be to make sure that the hotel/resort has other things to do - sports facilities, gym, an indoor pool, local town, excursions etc.

You can't guarantee weather in April at all, but for 3k if you hold your nerve you should be able to get a good hotel for May half term/June if you book next year. 5* water park hotels were around 2.5k this June

DJSteves · 16/07/2023 21:07

Turkey will be quiet and chilly. Expect that not all facilities to be open in April

I went at Easter and found it pretty cloudy and cold. Only a few days there was sun and even then it wasn't hot enough to warm the pools. There was one heated pool indoors so that helped, but the hotel water park and many pools were pointless for us! So generally felt it was too cold when we went really. Wish I had paid for summer instead

Guessed your children's ages but look at this

I think Easter next year is slightly cheaper than normal because it's during Ramadan and there won't be much going on outside tourist areas but if that doesn't bother you then go for it!! It'll be low- mid twenties so not hot but warm enough to swim.

Ducksurprise · 16/07/2023 21:14

Even if over 16 it is still 2.8k

Trounlet · 17/07/2023 21:28

Thanks all, I'll keep looking for something May half term as it sounds like Easter is too uncertain weather wise.

We went this May half term and booked around 2 weeks before we went. 6 nights for 2A and 1 teen was £1500 with TUI.

Thank you for this post OP. I could have written it myself!

I am dead set on Easter as we want to go for 9 nights, which we can't do in May half term.

Dh is also dead set on Antalya. Dd1 will be 15 and dd2 12.

We went to Cyprus at Easter a few years ago and it was plenty hot enough for us, including swimming in the sea. So I think Turkey should be fine 🤞

Now just to find a good AI package deal!
