Looking for somewhere where the water is calm and clear in Europe with teenagers where it feels safe and not too commercialised. Any ideas please? 🙏 thanks so much!!!

So far I've been looking at Croatia, Greek Islands, Majorca, canaries(although not sure about the beaches)

Oh I was about to say Alonissos! It’s my favourite Greek island after visiting many. You have to be ok with pebbly beaches but the water is beyond stunning and it’s quiet.

Paxos is a possible option too, quieter than neighbouring Corfu but a bit more going on than Alonissos, again lovely water. Kefalonia too especially if you wanted sandy beaches.

Would recommend hiring a boat for a day or couple of half days and taking snorkelling gear in any of these locations - but tbh the snorkelling in the Med is never ever going to rival any tropical coral reef locations.

Mallorca, but beware the jelly fish!

Menorca, it's beautiful. Beaches range from small undeveloped coves that you can only access on foot, to 2 mile long sandy beaches that you can easily access by car.

It's a lovely island, and not very commercial, even the busier resorts are small by most standards.

kefalonia 🥰

Sardinia. It's possible to find not too touristy areas (hire a car). Water is crystal clear. The picture here that's in deeper water I have pictures of DCs swimming you can see them as though it's a pool and then the rocks 15ft below.

You should try Slovenia, it's safe and beautiful, it has the coast and the mountain region as well. We tried rafting on the Soca River and canyoning Bled, but there are also lots of other things to see and do in the cities.

If you need links for more recommendations let me know

My teens (and I!) loved Meganisi last year https://www.clickstay.com/p/381555

A friend swears by Croatia and we're thinking about it for next year

Lake Orta in Italy.

Not touristy, gorgeous water with little jetties to sunbathe on and leap off, fantastic food and beautiful Italian scenery. My daughter cried when we left!

Meganisi sounds fabulous. How did you get there please?

Praed · 19/07/2023 11:29

@minipie we flew to Prevesa, then a taxi journey to a ferry from Lefkada. (Lots of people on our flight were holidaying in Lefkada actually, it's a bit easier transport-wise but maybe a bit less unspoilt?)

minipie · 19/07/2023 11:34

Thanks! Might be a good two centre holiday, Lefkada/Meganisi.

VenusClapTrap · 19/07/2023 12:44

Stavanger area in Norway has beautiful beaches with crystal clear water. You won’t have to contend with crazy heat either like some of the places mentioned!

XelaM · 19/07/2023 12:45

Rhodes!

And Cyprus.

Clearest water I have ever seen.

Is it easy to travel to the islands from Dubrovnik or Split? Have an amazing time!!

From Split it is very easy to access the 'main' islands of Brac, Hvar, Korcula and laterly Vis. Catamarans run regular services through out the day during the season. As above, we have been going every year for years and love the place :-)
