Using phone in Turkey

We go to Turkey tomorrow and I somehow thought they were part of EU roaming.

I'm with Virgin with unlocked phone and wonder what’s best way of getting data for use there. Buy a local SIM?

Airalo is a good option. It’s an e-sim card that you install on your phone via an app. You normally get $5 off your first purchase. Not sure how much it would be for Türkiye

Does virgin offer any deals for EU roaming?

dementedpixie · 16/07/2023 12:05

This suggests you don't get charged extra in the EU on Virgin

Turkey is not in the EU

Or do they not cover Turkey?

Haven’t Virgin just transferred there mobile business to O2? I am in the same position as you (going to Turkey, phone with Virgin/O2) and have been advised that I can use my phone but have to ask for a “bolt on”; then I will be charged £6 per day every day I use my phone while on holiday.

Interested to hear if there’s other cheaper options (I think you can hire a mobile Wi-Fi, but not sure that’s any less expensive?)

Mine will start with O2 in August when I get back.

I’ll explore e-Sims

They sell sims at the airport and quite a few families bought mobile wifi which worked on a few phones.
I made do with just hotel wifi and it was actually fine.
