Austria - how much cash to take?

We go to Austria in August and it is some years since we have been abroad so not really used to planning!

I'm trying to decide how much cash we should get? We have debit and credit cards that work abroad so I am thinking just a small amount of cash and use cards for the rest?

What have others done?

If you are going to the mountains the weather forecast is only reliable for about 2 days. It can change very quickly.

The forecast is still better than for the UK! It will just be very changeable, but there should be some nice sunny spells.

Yes it’s been raining the last few days. Today was really cold first thing, then warm and muggy all afternoon and now thunderstorms.
Often the forecast when it says rain, it’s actually nice until about 3-4pm and then overcast and rain and storms into the evening. Especially in mountain area as the heat builds up.

I'm trying to pack and think I need something for every season!

Not Austria, but on a recent trip to Spain we used our Starling debit card almost everywhere. The odd business had a minimum spend level, so we needed a small amount of cash for those. The biggest need for cash was for tips. I don't like adding tips to card payments as I don't know if it goes to the server. With cash, there is a greater chance of that happening. An unexpected bonus was we got a much better exchange rate on the card than if we had taken Euros from a bank.

At the moment I'm v fed up. Driving across has taken significantly more time than expected - what should have been 12 hours from Calais is looking more like 18
Weather forecast awful so not helping my mood! I'm trying to be the positive one in the car...

We're in Austria now. It was supposed to be warm and sunny in the morning and rain and thunderstorms early afternoon. It's 5.30 pm here and no sign of rain so far and it's also been moved to by 7 pm. So don't despair at rainy forecasts

Typical Austrian mountain weather here today (Friday).

Warm and overcast first thing - even a few raindrops at 09.00.
Packed a rucksack with fleece and jacket for showers and headed off up the mountain. 15 deg when we got to the top - cloudless blue skies and high 20's by lunchtime and down to shorts and a t-shirt and heading for the shade to keep cool. Dinner on the apartment balcony in the evening in just a light top until it suddenly turned cold and dark. Currently back indoors (22.30 here) as it's raining heavily and there's a huge, spectacular thunderstorm.

The same is forecast for tomorrow - and Sunday and Monday.

We also arrived in Austria yesterday afternoon. High 20s and warm and sunny when we arrived, stayed warm but got a bit overcast but no rain as forecast.

Overcast but warm this morning so will see what the day holds! Have a lovely holiday. Seems beautiful here so far.

Is anyone here now? Weather has taken a downturn

The weather has been wet most the week where we are. Forecast is Sunday onwards it should warm up, gradually back to high 20s- 30 degree by the following weekend.
So I think just Saturday will be raining until mid afternoon.

Yes weather seems to improve from Wednesday. Guess what day we are leaving?!

Well that's when it gets better in the UK, if that's any consolation ...
It has been wet & miserable here for ages ...

Just bumping this- was on the thread earlier.
We are back from a fantastic holiday and only found one place (café/ice cream place- and that was Mittenwald so just over the border) that only accepted cash.
Things were generally much cheaper than I'd been expecting (don't know why I'd been expecting things to be dear really!) Pretty much on a par with Spain, Portugal etc. The only thing distinctly more expensive was coffee.
