Anyone been to New York and stayed in a hotel on the outskirts??

Thinking of going to New York but to save money would like to stay on the outskirts for eg Jersey City,Fort Lee etc....and then commute to Manhattan....Any advise on good hotels would be appreciated....Will be going with DD 3 and 8.

Brooklyn's a lot cheaper than NY and it's really easy to commute to Manhattan. Also have you thought about renting an apartment for a week, can be a lot cheaper than hotels.

I have checked apts but quite expensive!Will check Brooklyn...
