Has anyone been recently? Last time I went was when I was 13 cica early 2000s.

Has it changed much? What is there to do?

Will you have a car so you can see other areas (escape)? The Walton pier reopened and Clacton pier had a rejuvenation, but I've never been to either.

Frinton is worth looking at the various shops and Manningtree is pretty. Walton always feels a bit run down with the various charity and tat shops- so possibly no different to when you last went.

We have a car.

Walton resident here.

Walton’s high street has had a bit of a revamp over the past couple of years and we now have some really lovely shops and restaurants. The Lara (Turkish), East coast 5 (Mediterranean) and Bianca’s coffee shop are particularly good. There are a few vintage clothes shops and tonnes of hairdressers/beauty places.

The pier has been refurbished and has rides, arcade, soft play, bowling, darts, climbing wall and escape rooms.

The beach is the major attraction in Walton. Miles of golden sand and it’s all relatively clean with blue flag status. (I run a beach hut hire company so I may be a bit biased but I honestly think it’s a beautiful beach)

If you go to Eastcliff beach in Walton it’s one of the best places in the country to find fossils and shark’s teeth.

There’s also a really lovely inclusive play park on Bathhouse Meadow.

if you like a walk, the Naze is beautiful and there’s a sculpture trail. You can also go up the Naze Tower for the view and they have an art gallery inside.

Clacton is not far away and both the Pier and Hasty’s Farm are worth a visit.

@GoooRooo Thank you for the info for me too. I have relatives not too far away- and had no idea about some of those restaurants and things in the area!

When would you be going OP? In addition to what @GoooRooo said, on a thursday morning there is a small market in the car park. Fresh fruit/veg stand, plants, clothes, household items and a fresh fish stall on the seafront.

24/25th Aug is the Clacton air show which is fantastic, but very busy. From Walton, I'd get the bus there and back because finding a park in Clacton would be a nightmare. Clacton Airshow the East's Premier Airshow!

Park Fruit Farm orchards and farm shop, English apples, apple juice, cider, damsons, cider vinegar, plums.

Just came back.

The beach is beautiful no stones, clear sea.

The town and pier have changed since I was younger. The rides in the pier were shut just the 2p machines and arcade open.

The town, there's not much there anymore. There's only a few shops. We ate in a cafe and it was quite expensive but I expected that for a tourist location.

It's still a charming traditional seaside town. The town like most towns these days is struggling with lack of footfall (outside of season) but they have some great shops and eateries still. A highlight for me was Oh My Naze! If you have any kind of connection or memories to Walton they have so many gifts featuring old high street shops, restaurants, pier rides, pie and mash (they have Whites in-town very popular with pie and mash die hards and locals), the couple that run it are lovely - and always up for a chat too. It's a really cool unique store, with loads of areas to explore (a Tiki Room, nautical section and more!).

But generally still a lovely place to explore, a lovely long beach, fossils, arcades etc.
