How much is reasonable for an All Inclusive Holiday?

Never been abroad with the kids so we're looking to book a 7 night holiday for 2 adults, 2 kids, probably Easter holidays or just before. Not too fussed on a specific location but would like somewhere with good activities for the kids with nice pools, maybe a few water slides or a splash park.

How much is a reasonable/average amount to pay for a holiday like this? Seeing lots of quotes for £2k+ but this just seems like a crazy amount but really have nothing to compare it to.
Is taking the kids out of school for a week a better idea? (They are primary school age and have good attendance and grades)

2k is probably the lower end, especially if you are set on school holidays

Squiggo · 13/07/2023 15:07

We’ve just paid £6-7k for a week all inclusive in the Canaries, summer holidays.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 13/07/2023 15:08

We where 2500 for just me and DP for an all inclusive holiday to Crete in august.

You're going to be way more than £2k for the four of you!

Stressfordays · 13/07/2023 15:09

We paid £800pp for a week AI in Spain for July (school holidays) this year. Next year I'm going to pull my kids out next year and happy to spend £2.5k for a week AI in May time. You probably won't find anything cheaper the £4-500pp.

LadyTemperance · 13/07/2023 15:09

Do you mean 2k per person?

Amandasummers · 13/07/2023 15:11

6k for 6 of us in October half term 😩

curliegirlie · 13/07/2023 15:11

I paid just under £2k for 10 days AI in Malta, starting from before the holidays (2adults, 2 kids) and it worked really well - it would have been another £1k or more I reckon if we'd moved it to Easter proper of May half term. My children (YR and Y2) missed 4 days, and although it was marked as an unauthorised absence we weren't fined. Maybe the head felt sorry for us as we'd originally booked if for May half term last year, but DD1 got chicken pox 2 days before we were due to fly out!

Coronationstation · 13/07/2023 15:11

£2k sounds cheap to me for school holidays. Have a look on the big company websites such as Jet2 holidays, TUI and Thomas Cook, put your departure airport(s) in and play around with dates and destinations but note that parts of the Med aren't that warm at Easter if you want a pool type of holiday.

MoveOnTheCards · 13/07/2023 15:11

We paid £6/7k for AI in Tenerife (7 nights, 2 adults 1 kid). Would only do 5* or equivalent to be sure of food quality and facilities. £2k sounds really cheap and I’d wonder what was missing /about the quality.

Would you look at B&B in a location that has good local restaurants? We got a great hotel deal in the med on this basis and it was really cheap to eat out at any of the many restaurants close by. Check out Greece and Cyprus for this kind of thing.

I meant just before the Easter holidays...

BendingSpoons · 13/07/2023 15:14

That's actually a pretty low price. Be a bit careful that it will actually be warm enough to use the pools/slides etc.

Lovelynames123 · 13/07/2023 15:16

I've paid as little as £1200 for 4 but in term time, this year paying £5200 for 5 in summer holidays. There are always deals to be had, look at going on the Friday school breaks up or coming back on a Monday, providing you're happy for kids to miss a day? I'm looking for October half term and have found a good one to the Canaries for £2200 for 3

Turmerictolly · 13/07/2023 15:16

You'll need to look at somewhere like Egypt or the Canaries if you want pool weather at Easter time. It will be cheaper than the summer holidays but probably still around £700-£800 each. The big companies might do free child places if you book well in advance.

Doje · 13/07/2023 15:17

We paid 2k for a AI in Menorca in 2018, outside of the school hols, and that was a good deal then!!

We're self-catering this year as I couldn't cope with having the discussion with DH....

thaisweetchill · 13/07/2023 15:17

2k won't get you far I'm afraid. We paid £3,000 for 7 nights in Crete all inclusive the week before May holidays, 2 adults and a 3 year old but we went via Jet2 and got the free child place.

I found the Greek islands were a lot cheaper than Spain/canaries. Maybe look at turkey also?

Or you could make it cheaper by looking at half/full board?

Scottishlanza · 13/07/2023 15:17

As people have said pre easter you only really have the canaries as an option, occasionally the Costa del sol will be warm enough but pools will be freezing unless heated. Even the canary island pools are cold at that time of year unless heated

Rooroobear · 13/07/2023 15:44

Sounds about right. I went away in Easter with me and my 2 kids…..7 nights, all inclusive with one free child place and it was £1800

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 13/07/2023 18:09

The weather won’t be reliable in a lot of Europe that early in the year and places like the canaries where the weather is a bit more guaranteed will be expensive.

we don’t go all inclusive as tied to holidays and can’t afford the £5-10k it would cost for something decent, and you’re taking a big risk with cheap all inclusive. We go b&b and eat out every night. Total holiday cost then comes in at about £3.5k. My kids count as adults now and we need 2 rooms. Used to be able to do it all for under £3k when they were younger.

Dildoslag · 13/07/2023 18:26

£2k is cheap for school holidays. During summer holidays £3k will be cheap for AI. I've done AI for <£1k before but it was pre-covid term time. Those sort of deals seem to be a thing of the past.

Turkey use to be cheaper than the rest of the med. Greece seems really expensive at the moment. Bigger resorts like Benidorm, Salou, Maguluf can be a bit cheaper.

gogomoto · 13/07/2023 19:01

£2k is cheap now. Weather in southern Europe is likely to be cooler and wet before Easter, but like the weather now in the the U.K.!

Tinkietot · 13/07/2023 19:02

Aug this year most people I know for 10 nights all inclusive, 2 adults and 2 kids it’s 5-6k

tacomaco · 13/07/2023 19:20

You are limited with warm options at Easter. I think you’re looking at minimum of £1k each for a good AI hotel. You might possibly get one free child place. Have a look at Jet2 free kids places and see what options you have. At Easter you’re really looking at the Canaries.

Hi OP. Have not read full thread but think you would be nuts to shell out ££££ for a short family holiday given COL, Global Warming, high temperatures predicted in Europe. Expect next year temps will be higher.

Just imagine paying ££££ and having to sit indoors in air con with bad TV??

I personally, would look at staycations. at good location.

Do good research of areas with things that interest you as a family and are not too expensive to travel to (check offers) e.g. history, type of sport, art/crafts etc. something that your family will engage and learn from.

Whatever you, I would advise, do not go into debt for a holiday just because others you know are 'going away'. Don't go on a holiday you have to
pay for after you come back. You can't afford it.
Don't get sucked into keeping up with the Jones.
Wishing you and your family a happy summer.

Oblomov23 · 13/07/2023 20:35

I know people who have paid £1k to £10k. Loads of my friends have paid £3k,£4K,£6k. We went to Tenerife for £4k it was poor, no air conditioning. Last year Easter we went hotel Triton Majorca. All inclusive, week for 4, 2 x teens, £1,100. Yes seriously. That cheap. Travelzoo special deal. We had a right Laff. Wasn't the Ritz. But it was fine. hotel

The op doesn’t say she will struggle to afford this. Not everyone is affected by col.
