"Divorce"moon - where am I going?!

notabirthday · 11/07/2023 11:50

Divorce is filed and the 26 weeks thing is kicking it being finalised early 2024. I feel I will need a holiday afterwards so maybe April / May. The children will be left with STBXH for the week.

This is my wish list:
A nice, unique hotel somewhere warm with a good breakfast, a cafe with chilled wine and tasty but simple salads / veg and seafood for lunch / dinner with a pool and near a quiet beach, walking distance to a bar or two for a people watch. And a really comfy bed with crisp cotton sheets and a decent shower in the bathroom. Some wildlife or sealife. A week tops. And outside school hols so no children around. Budget is £1-1.2k at a guess and am in SE so access to major airports not a problem. Preferably not Spain.

Am discounting both the Caribbean and Far East as both far plus I have this image of the beach areas being full of loved up honeymooners which is the last bloomin thing I want (although never had a honeymoon so don't know if that would be right!).

Any ideas much appreciated!

Congratualtions OP!

Anywhere along the Amalfi coast - Sorrento or Positano.

We have just stayed here

rossellimalta.com

Beautiful hotel with amazing breakfasts on 3 tier stands and a lovely terrace- nice rooftop seating area with dip pool

In a scenic very old part of Valletta with plenty of life and some great fun bars with live music close by. Very mixed age range

Liguria is ideal, you can take the train too and enjoy the views. San Sebastian is a very different Spain and foody and lush, also (trainable).

Why didn't I think of a divorce moon?!?

cherryassam · 11/07/2023 12:39

The Rosselli in Malta is great.

Hotels that came to mind from your description:

Hotel Lone, Rovinj Croatia
Kyrimai Hotel, Gerolimenas Greece
Anemi, Folegandros Greece
Lango Design Hotel, Kos Greece

@cherryassam - it really was the bees knees!! Loved it

Crikeyalmighty · 11/07/2023 14:58

@cherryassam I liked Rovinj too

Greek islands was my first thought. But I might have been just a bit influenced by Shirley Valentine. 🤣I see PP has made some
Specific recommendations.

A friend and mine recently recommended this in Morocco. She goes there alone:

Thanks for all the ideas ladies! Some of these are lovely looking places but my £1kish is an all in price so most of these are out of my league but I will keep exploring the areas recommended!

@dizzydizzydizzy def my Shirley Valentine moment and I think that's why I keep coming back to thinking of the Greek Islands too 😆

@Summerhillsquare I've no idea why I came up with the idea but googled divorcemoon thinking it would be yield nothing yet sure enough the phrase had already been coined. Is it too late for you to have one?! Hadn't thought of train travel to Italy so will definitely look at Liguria - thousands of years ago I did interrail a few times and that coastline is beautiful.

I would try British airways on the holiday section. I found there were some good deals and usually very nice hotels too - the good thing is you can set a price limit and rough dates. EasyJet do similar

I’d also say Greece, we went in may once and it was still relatively quiet. We used to go the beach late afternoon once the sea had warmed up and there would only be us and locals.

cherryassam · 12/07/2023 09:54

I’m not sure how it would fit budget wise, but Little Bird in Lesvos food wise sounds perfect for you. It’s a real hidden gem, and direct flights to Lesvos are available which helps.

I absolutely love the idea of divorce moon! Can I also do one?! I think mine will be October half term 🥂

I loved Villa Kynthia in Crete. Loads of nice cafes and restaurants, beaches, can get bus to historical sites.

Such a great idea!

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/07/2023 10:10

Santorini is gorgeous- I wish I had thought to go there for a divorce-moon.

MotherofTerriers · 12/07/2023 10:22

Oooo, I got divorced 5 years ago, I never got a divorce-moon. Wonder if its too late....

I agree with Greece - I rewatched Julia Bradbury's Greek Island series at the weekend, she covers some of the big islands but goes off the beaten track too.
