Taking a child's friend on holiday

We are going abroad in August and taking my 16 year olds friend with us. Are we likely to need permission from his parents to fly without them? I'm finding differing information online. Tia

Why don’t you just ask them?

I'd take a letter of permission just in case you are asked when flying. Different countries may have different rules so where would you be going?

Yes. Letter of permission from parents and then a photo copy of the birth certificate and maybe parents passport photo copies. I live in a holiday destination and every time I travel home there are some very pissed off families and a teenagers sulking because they have been held up at immigration because of this.

We took DD's friend with us and had a letter from her mum with permission, passport details and contact number. Weren't asked for it but just in case.

Thank you all
@MrsSkylerWhite obviously I meant a letter or form to show at the airport from the parents NOT their permission to take him in the first place!!!

I am loving the idea that the OP has not asked them!

Apparently a big thing going on a cruise that you have to have paperwork from the absent parents/guardian of any child. A letter of permission plus their passport id.

My son went to Spain with his girlfriend and her Dad at 16. No one asked for anything.
