Euro deposit cheque for AirBnB

I'm looking at an AirBnB in France but the host wants a damage deposit in the form of a cheque for E2000.

Can anyone tell me how do I get a cheque made out in euros - and would there be a charge for this even if it then goes uncashed?

I was thinking travellers cheque (do they still exist even?) But I'd presumably then have to pay exchange rates twice - once to buy it in Euros and once to sell it back.

Ask them if they'll accept a cheque in the equivalent in GBP?
I've rented a couple of gîtes in the past where the owners have asked for and then returned deposit cheques.
The only way to issue a cheque in Euros is if it is drawn on a euro bank account.

i would inform Airbnb about this owner and see what they have to say about the matter.

I would also find another listing.

if I recall correctly the security deposit is added to your credit card amount when you book.

If there is a damage/key deposit to be paid, under Airbnb rules this has to be included in the payments that you make over the Airbnb platform. That way your money is protected - and there is a resolution process in case there are any disputes about deductions for damage etc.

Thanks all - have only used AirBnB once before so am a bit of a newbie. I've gone back to the host saying we're only prepared to do a deposit via AirBnB and am waiting for their response.

Find a different property. Do not make any payments or agreeements outside of the AirBnb platform.
