South Africa - spending money

We're going to South Africa soon - Cape Town and safari. What's the best thing to do about money - take cash or spend on debit/credit cards, or something else?

You can use debit or credit cards but there's often a service charge per transaction.

I used a Revolut card that I loaded up with rands - contact less is available almost everywhere and I had it on my phone. The exchange rate doing it that was is quite good and you don't pay any service fee.

Some cash is useful though so worth just doing a single withdrawal to reduce fees.

You will use mainly credit/debit cards like you do in the UK - for the safari you might want to have some cash available if you take some booked game drives to tip the driver. I would draw out some cash when there and use cards.

Yes youl need cash to tip, tips are really important, such as 'tipping' to have your car filled up,it's just the norm and you won't want to have no cash.but also need card for supermarkets etc, youl need both.have an awesome time!
