Self catering Netherlands - what areas?

Considering something different for holiday next year. Dh and I have been to Amsterdam but we don’t know the rest of the country. Can anyone familiar with the Netherlands give a few pointers on areas good for 10-14 days self catering? Forest walks, lakes, castles, maybe a beach, bit of history, things to do. Close enough for a day trip into Amsterdam?

Can't help with regard to self-catering, but for general information about what parts of the Netherlands would best suit you, have a look at www.holland.com (the official Dutch tourist information site) and www.lonelyplanet.com

Both sites arrange much of their information and resources thematically, making it easier to hone in on what's relevant. They should also be able to help with accommodation suggestions.

Fortunately in NL you're never far from somewhere well worth visiting, whether by car or public transport. In fact you'll likely be spoilt for choice.

We’ve enjoyed both Friesland and the area around Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe.

Schouwen-Duiveland at the southern part near the Belgium border.

Easy to go to Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp for a day or Rotterdam, Utrecht, Amsterdam.

Thanks for recommendations, have been looking at the area around Appeldoorn which looks lovely.
