Faro Airport security ladies

What have been your experience of Faro airport; we have traveled a lot but up until now never experienced as rude treatment in any airport as in Faro airport, mainly by the security ladies and inmigration lady; very stressed and rude. It is like they feel they have the power to tell you off.

I know I shouldn’t be put off by a few people but up now I thought the Portuguese were kind and respectful; off course no country is perfect but there shouldn’t be doing that job if they dislike it so much.

Came back from Faro yesterday, all fine no issues, just busy people dealing with a lot of people who don’t all follow the rules

tacomaco · 06/07/2023 12:47

To be fair to them, what you can and cannot take through security is not new. It’s been like this for years. I am always amazed at people taking full bottles of perfume, shampoo etc through. Then there was as guy in front of me who wanted to take a spanner, hammer and a Stanley knife through a few months ago.

If people understood this, didn’t get stroppy and just listened to what they’re being told, it would be a breeze.

Begonne · 06/07/2023 12:49

I’ve been through Faro many times without any issues. What happened?

purpleleotard2 · 06/07/2023 12:55

Not good
Came through the airport when they were having a rebuild so the security was rerouted.
Crass woman asked my disabled partner to get out of their mobility scooter and walk through the metal detector portal. Just not possible.
All very stressful, broke down in tears immediately.
No apology from her or the team leader.
Aggressive to me when I went back to help.
I wrote to complain but received no reply.

I travel there regularly and it’s always fine - what happened?

Hullabaloo31 · 06/07/2023 12:57

Been through tons of times with no issues

girlmeetsboy · 06/07/2023 13:36

Travel there every few months and never had an issue

StarlightLady · 06/07/2023 13:51

"It is like they feel they have the power to tell you off."

In any airport, the security people do have this power.

Topseyt123 · 06/07/2023 13:54

It was several years ago now, but I didn't have a good experience. I was just waiting like everyone else for my bag to finish coming through the security scanner and one of them came up and said that if I continued waiting there she would arrest me!

I was just in the usual waiting area, and only there for a couple of minutes just like everyone else. I was very upset. I was doing nothing wrong and there was no reason for it.

Alloveragain3 · 06/07/2023 14:21

They're mainly polite and relaxed, if a little grumpy. I've seen a few people recently who were clearly very over tired / over worked.

We arrived on a delayed flight at 11pm and they were telling certain (eligible) people to get out of the priority queue as the staff serving it needed to go home and sleep.

A few weeks before we saw a British man getting a proper bollocking for queue skipping. To be fair, I was in support of the staff member on that one!

purplecorkheart · 06/07/2023 14:23

I always found them fine. I felt sorry for them the last time I was there There was awful weather and all flights out of there were majorly delayed. They were getting awful flack from some people because of the delays.

CremeEggThief · 06/07/2023 14:27

What do you think moaning about it on a British site is going to do though? Do you think they care?🤔

whatausername · 06/07/2023 14:38

People should always like their job? Oh to have be in such a luxurious position with such choice. Maybe the problem was just you and your high horse?

CremeEggThief · 06/07/2023 14:39

Just saw your update, OP.
YABU to be calling yourself single and referring to him as an ex if that's the case and I hope neither of you are sucking innocent people who are genuinely looking for partners into all your drama. Cannot stand those people! 😡

GCAcademic · 06/07/2023 14:41

I’m guessing you’ve never been to the US, OP?

CremeEggThief · 06/07/2023 14:41

Apologies OP, I've posted my response on the wrong thread, sorry. 😬

Precipice · 06/07/2023 14:52

I recently had a snapping security guy at Heathrow who, as I was packing my things back up post-screen, was asking me questions like "Why would you remove this?" to things which had been obviously removed for the sake of getting out others. I always need to take a book out to remove my laptop. Nobody's going to be removing a book thinking that books need special screening and nobody's going to be making a production of putting everything on top back in after they're removed everything that needed to go out, only to take it all back out again on the other side of the belt.

To be fair to them, what you can and cannot take through security is not new. It’s been like this for years. Some of the rules on what has to be removed and put into the trays really vary. Some airports want chargers out and some don't. Recently my rucksack was sent back through with the umbrella taken out, while generally umbrellas remain in.

I have. They were dreadful too although didn't threaten to arrest me for just waiting for my bag from the security scanner like Faro did.

US customs is hardly a warm welcome, and we concluded that a sense of humour bypass was a prerequisite for getting the job.

HelloUtrecht · 06/07/2023 15:10

Only had good experiences at Faro.

FettleOfKish · 08/07/2023 17:48

Travelled through Faro today, no problems at all.

They were a bit 🙄 at the people in front of us at security but they had liquids and tech they'd not taken out of their bags so fair enough.
