Family areas in Menorca?

SQLsurfer · 03/07/2023 07:01

Could anyone recommend a great area in menorca to stay for families with a 3 year old?

Looking at getting a villa with my parents next spring / summer and I've not been to menorca before.

Would love to hear some opinions/suggestions!

Better still - links to villas you've stayed in and rate!

I think we'd be looking for more than just a nice beach. We'd want somewhere with things to do with a 3 year old Smile

Happy to hear suggestions of places not in Menorca too

To be honest the whole of Menorca is pretty much family orientated.
I love Son Bou though

All of them!

Forgot to say. Villa would be for 6 adults (3 couples) and one 3 year old - so needs to have at least 4 beds

Cala n Bosch! This was lovely and flat compared to the area we had stayed in before. Lovely marina.

I agree all of Menorca is good for families.

Cala Galdana has a lovely beach and has mini golf, cafe with water slides etc (check it is open)

Son Bou has a nice beach, bouncy castles in the evening etc.

Will you hire a car or stay in one place? We smaller resorts with less there can be cheaper e.g. we stayed in Santo Tomas which is mainly 1 road of holiday accommodation by the beach but good for the beach/pool or exploring other areas nearby.

SQLsurfer · 03/07/2023 07:10

@BendingSpoons if it was just me and the husband and 3yo we'd hire a car to be able to explore. But I think my parents and the other couple coming and probably more inclined to not want to drive... haha so the answer is maybe!

In that case I'd probably look at one of the bigger resorts that has a decent choice of restaurants etc. There have been a few mentioned and sure there are others.

The buses to Mahon and Cituadella are reasonable from most places if some of you fancy exploring there. They have boat trips and buildings to explore.

Thank you so much! I won't lie, we've never been on a family holiday with our daughter so I'm a bit apprehensive but you've all made me feel a bit excited now for this!

We stayed in calan Bosch which was nice, but we went on a boat trip to cala Galdana which we thought looked really lovely, especially for 3 year olds - really calm shallow bay, trees on the beach so easy to find shade etc. We were only there for the afternoon so can't really comment on more than beach but first impressions were great. I

I know a family who always go to Son Bou too and love it.

In terms of things to do - what sort of thing do you mean? It's a pretty quiet island, but all very family oriented. Theres a waterpark in calan Bosch, a little zoo on the south coast somewhere. Lots of play areas about generally.

Cala Galdana by a country mile!!

Agree

Cala Galdana is lovely. But most of the villas are up what I think is really quite a steep hill.

Binibeca is my favourite resort of all.

elderflowerandpomelo · 03/07/2023 21:57

Gorgeous place we have been often. Perfect for littles. I’d DEFINITELY hire a car and go to a new beach every day - that’s what we’ve always done.

Fightingtalk · 03/07/2023 22:27

Cala n Bosch! We stayed in a 2 bed apt in a hotel (Grupotel Tamariscos) so had the benefits of self catering plus facilities. Two pools, right by the beach, short walk to the water park and marina for dinner (the Mexican has a soft play!)

Fightingtalk · 03/07/2023 22:31

Sorry should have RTFT! You might want a couple of adjacent apartments for your numbers but we also went with parents and it was great for short distances and flat. Easy buses to nearby towns too.

SleepingisanArt · 03/07/2023 22:44

We stayed in a James Villas villa in San Jaime and then Torre Soli Nou (both Son Bou) for 8 years running! Great for children, great for adults too. If funds allowed I'd buy a villa there! We've always hired a car but the bus service is good and there are plenty of taxis.

I have many happy memories of Son Bou and the bouncy tiger - did many hols there with small ones
It's calm and not rowdy at all but I did think the restaurant choice was rather limited
The beach was lovely and the people v friendly

There were Spanish extended families there in apartments who spilled out on to the lawns with tables under the trees with their pets and ate meals and played cards.

Mentioning it now, DH saying we could do a month there when we've retired

WhenIWasAFieldMyself · 03/07/2023 23:01

Cala Galdana for me too. Been 3 times, the first time in a villa (years ago though) on the hill. The hill is steep, but small iyswim so yes, a good quick trudge.
The Cala Galdana hotel itself has villas in its grounds as well.

Hi, did you have a good holiday? Would you recommend Minorca? I'm looking for exactly the same as you were last year....multi generation holiday and would love to know how you got on😊xx
