Thanks for all the help on my previous post helping me to find where to go for October half term.

Now I've booked a week on Kos, any tips on day trips out. Advice on bike hire/car hire etc...

Thanks

Also does anyone know how late in the year boat trips to Turkey and the other islands run for?

Where abouts on Kos are you staying? Kos Town was worth a visit and Bodrum if the boats to Turkey are still going. Very much the end of the season

We went late September and had perfect weather. The highlight was a boat trip to neighbour island Nisyros which is an active volcano. You can actually walk into the crater. It's a bit stinky but really interesting.

@RJ85 , thanks staying in Kardamena, so looking at either buses or car hire to explore Kos town, but its definitely on the list. Happy with the end of season feel, and will enjoy just exploring nature/towns if nothing is open. But its a bonus is some things are still open/running.

@Hobbesmanc that sounds right up my sons street, can you remember which boat company you went with? Cheers.

Sorry I can't but there's loads of options in the harbour. If your son likes volcanoes he's going to love it. Sulphur pools and mini geysers. The dangerous bits are roped off but you can wander in the crater pretty much freely. And the harbour town is cute.

Thanks @Hobbesmanc that definitely sounds like it needs to be on our list for the week.

There are boat trips to Kalymnos.
The Asklepion is worth a visit .

If you hire a car go to Zia for dinner. It’s the best place on the island to watch the sunset over Turkey. Our rep booked us a table at Oromedon. The food was delicious and it was very reasonably priced. It was only a 20-25 minute drive, if that, from Kardamena. The village is very, very pretty too, but if you do go I highly recommend asking someone from your accommodation or your rep to book a restaurant for you because it gets busy there.

EnglishRose1320 · 02/07/2023 15:16

@Riapia thanks, would you say you can get around the island fairly well on public transport, or should I factor in a few days of car rental.

@TheFairyCaravan I've heard the sunset at Zia is meant to be stunning. Do you know if you can see it anywhere without booking a table? Ds is Autistic and probably won't eat anything at a restaurant, but would enjoy the view. That or a restaurant that does chips!

Second Nisyros Island and The Asklepion.

We also did a boat trip to Plati and Pserimos, definitely worth doing. The sea at Plati was unbelievably turquoise, just stunning.

We really enjoyed exploring Kos Town, particularly Kos Old Town which was beautiful. There’s also a few Roman sites which make for a good few hours of exploring - the Western Archaelogical Zone, Casa Romana, Roman Gymnasium ruins and the Roman Odeon of Kos. Neratzia Castle is also worth walking out to, for the views if nothing else.

Aquatica Water Park or Lido Water Park are fun trips, especially if you’ve got kids who like water slides etc. We found the Lido Water Park had more to do especially if you’ve got younger kids but the slides were perhaps a bit better at Aquatica.

Ooh haven't heard of some of these recommendations @cherryassam , I'll check them out, thanks

@EnglishRose1320 You can see the sunset from the wall at the edge of the village too. It’s really worth a visit.

Thanks @TheFairyCaravan
