Where's your favourite Haven site and why?

Haven. Which one and why?

(Following on from another thread)

There are so many and the prices range massively!

Some are really close to each other and some are really small?!

Things we like
*good indoor swimming.
*bingo/ entertainment
*parking next to caravan

Things we don't like
*long walk from evening entertainment to caravan.
*grotty / run down places!

Tales about Haven parks would be great to hear thank you.

Primrose Valley has excellent facilities and entertainment for kids.

caringcarer · 30/06/2023 23:11

Clicked too soon. Primrose Valley is in Yorkshire it is a large site but well maintained and run. They have their own private beach too. It is in Yorkshire.

Caister. We’ve been to loads- all the Norfolk ones, all the wales ones and quite a few others and Caister is always our favourite and we go back every year. It’s not as large as some of the others but the beach is lovely and you have the madness of Yarmouth down the road (5 mins drive) and then lovely Southwold within driving distance too (classy and opposite to Yarmouth)! The beach is lovely and leads off straight from the park. The swimming pool is great and there’s a Lidl, a carvery and a great Indian restaurant down the road! (Planet Spice).

Primrose Valley is great, was there last October. My favourite Haven site however is Berwick. Fantastic staff and it's just a lovely wee park, you can walk into the town which is nice and the coast is lovely. Not a big pool or a lot of activities to be fair compared to other parks but the friendliness of the staff keeps me going back!

Internetwanderer · 30/06/2023 23:57

Boyfriend rates Caister, we are going later this year.
I like Wild Duck, near Gt Yarmouth. Camping as well as well-spaced caravans. Campsite took care about where they placed you (so families with toddlers near play park, families with teenagers further away). And they clamped down on any antisocial behaviour immediately. The whole site was spotless
And I'm going to also mention Marton Mere too. No camping on that site but another great location (a bit away from town centre but buses were good). And another spotless site.

WorriedMillie · 01/07/2023 07:30

Site itself, Caister! Bonus of a gorgeous beach!
or Hafan Y Mor (sp?)

Thinking about the local area too, Berwick, although the site is average (Northumberland coastline to the south, beautiful villages in SE Scotland a short drive north, day trip to Edinburgh by train)

Ha, I only read this after I’d posted, it’s great isn’t it!
(Limoncello is lovely for an Italian meal, if you haven’t been ❤️)

The one in Northumberland

Thank you for the tip! 🙂 My DS has autism so we rarely eat out, this is why caravan holidays suit us so much, just love Berwick, not a far drive from us and DH has us retiring there! We are going abroad this year which may not go well but might try and get a wee October visit to Berwick if finances stretch!

Nat6999 · 01/07/2023 23:27

Primrose Valley, I love it because it is so close to Filey & Bridlington, for the facilities. It also has a lot of private rent caravans, which can work out cheaper than going through Haven, I've rented top of the range ones for less than Haven charge for a mid range one. There is a road train that you can use to & from the beach, we used to walk down & get the train back up the hill.

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 01/07/2023 23:37

We like Caister and Seashore the best.
We always pay extra to choose where the caravan is sited on the park and never have to walk very far.

Flipflops123 · 01/07/2023 23:38

Primrose Valley

mistermagpie · 01/07/2023 23:50

We went to Berwick last year and loved it so much we are going back again this year! We've also been to primrose valley and I would love to go back, we probably will next year.

Both are fantastic but I would always private rent rather than pay Haven prices. Last year we were £800 for a week in July, sea view with decking, three bedrooms. Haven we're charging £1600 for a week in equivalent accommodation. There are loads of private rentals in primrose valley in particular because it's a huge site.

Craig Tara has an amazing pool.

CeeJay81 · 02/07/2023 07:27

Hafan y mor for us. Kids love the big indoor swimming complex with water slides/flumes, wave pool etc and there's loads of activities. It's not that far from us, so have been lots. Haven't tried any of the other larger parks though, might try Primrose valley but it's quite a distance from us and doubt it'd be much better than Hafan y mor.

CeeJay81 · 02/07/2023 07:29

Also like has been mentioned. We always chose are caravan now. So you never have to have a long walk to the entertainment.

calimali · 02/07/2023 07:33

Greenacres. Not too big and a fantastic beach. It also has some stunning places to visit nearby - Porthmadog, Bethgelert, Criccieth, Harlech.

I don't mind Hafan y Mor. The same places are nearby, but it's a bit too big for me.

ohfook · 02/07/2023 07:37

I've only been to Berwick but been back a few times because the kids love it so much. The rock pooling on the beach activity is great - the guy that runs it is so knowledgeable.

Also second Limoncellos as a lovely inexpensive restaurant.

sweetheartyparty · 02/07/2023 07:50

We love Hafan Y Mor. The pool is fantastic and the surrounding area is so gorgeous. I had lots of really fond memories going there when I was a kid (when it was a Butlins site)
We went to Primrose Valley last week. Its very similar in size and facilities to Hafan Y Mor. We hired a caravan in the Lakes which is so far away from the main entertainment so we just stayed around the Lakeside complex which was really nice too.
Another lovely little park is in the Lake District. Its very well maintained and lots of watersports on offer.

Aquartz · 02/07/2023 08:03

Hafan Y Mor.
The pool is fantastic and they have a really good range of activities for kids.
The location is brilliant & loads to do nearby, Great beaches including Criccieth.

We also really liked the Berwick one. Lovely site, again, fantastic location, so much to do.

RedRobyn2021 · 02/07/2023 08:30

We live very close to Primrose valley so we haven't been to that one, but we went to the Fleetwood site near Blackpool last week and it was nice. Only 20 minutes drive from Blackpool to go to attractions for DD (gruffalo clubhouse, Peter rabbit), the caravan was lovely and clean, the staff were friendly. The site was small but we kind of wanted that to make sure it wasn't too noisy and that's what we got. Also Fleetwood beach is lovely, definitely has similar vibes as Hunmanby Gap.

Sirzy · 02/07/2023 08:32

Another vote for Berwick. Lovely site.

we prefer the smaller sites so also enjoyed Greenacres and Seaview in Weymouth

Diggetydawg · 02/07/2023 08:42

Berwick-upon-Tweed. Lovely small park so you're never too far away from the entertainment or beach, can walk into Berwick itself along the town walls, Beautiful beaches and towns nearby. The train station is with walking distance so you can do a day trip to Edinburgh or Newcastle if you want. Its perfect for children, we've been a few times and going later in the summer.
