Help find an impossible AI holiday

DH is dead set on an AI holiday this summer. DS8 is dead set on water slides.

However, I am autistic and hate loud music, flashing lights and crowds.

We need kids fun in the daytime, but quiet in the evenings and quiet accommodation to retreat to.

Does a resort like this exist?

I'm literally dreading it.

Mitsis Laguna in Crete isn’t noisy. They have a slide but not a water park. There are two massive pools, one of them is an interesting shape and has some family accommodation around it. Each of these rooms has its own little area with sun beds in for exclusive use for whoever has booked the room.
The restaurants are very good, in fact I only used the buffet twice although that was very nice. There’s a little row of five I think restaurants, it’s more like a little street out and about.
The drinks are very nice.
The only disadvantage is although it’s very near the sea the beach isn’t good but there are some nice ones nearby.

Change your DHs mind! AI: not for us. Stay somewhere quieter and get DH to go to water park with DC.

That does look nice.

It states that the town is noisy, is it very close?

We are going back to Arina Beach in Crete, water slides are great but separate to main pool(s)

BarbaraofSeville · 26/06/2023 17:19

You need to go to one of the expensive ones, that costs about as much as a very decent nearly new car.

Look at Family Luxe on Jet2holidays.

What aspect of AI is your DH 'dead set' on?

No

If it doesn’t suit you, then say no. A villa would be much nicer for you. AI is always busy & noisy.

We can manage that.

It's the convenience. We did do a very quiet, adults only one along time ago.

I went on a few noisy, family ones as a kid and ended up crying all the time and hiding in a kitchen cupboard.

Would half board be a compromise?

Obviously depends where you want to go but we are going to Austria, in a small-ish hotel (57 rooms). It has a pool (granted, not a water park but there is a lido 10 mins walk away with slides). Evening entertainment after dinner but all reviews say the hotel is quiet at night.
We will get breakfast and Evening meal included plus you can pack a lunch to take out at breakfast.

I think DH may need to compromise a bit here. The holiday needs to suit you all and it sounds like a large, noisy resort would be awful for you! Somewhere a bit smaller/quieter could be just as lovely.

Barut Lara in Antalya Turkey.

It’s amazing and plenty of quiet space

Bunnycat101 · 26/06/2023 19:46

Ikos wouldn’t have water slides but would have a kids club/activities for the 8yo and tick the quieter AI box.

Quveas · 26/06/2023 19:52

Ammos Resort, outside Mastichari on Kos. Lovely small hotel, very quiet. Quick taxi ride to a nice water park. Mastichari has lovely beaches, also nice and quiet. Easy to hire a car if you want to explore. The manager is Olga and she'll make sure that special requests like quieter rooms, ground floor, etc are catered for.

Quveas · 26/06/2023 19:55

Forgot to add, lovely make but there's an independent taverna a few hundred yards up the road if you want a nice meal out. There's nothing else around...

TheFairyCaravan · 26/06/2023 20:11

We went here in Kos in September 2020. There’s a waterpark just the other side of the car park so that’s your DS sorted, and it’s AI ask your DH will be happy. Wrt to noise and entertainment, there was some but there didn’t need to be any if you didn’t want that.

It’s a very big hotel complex, as I have mobility issues we were right near the main buildings where the pool bar was, I can’t remember music in the day though, and near the night entertainment. It was more live music than discos. However, there was a lot of pools scattered around the place which were very, very quiet, one was surrounded by about 20 rooms which I thought looked wonderful and there’s a private beach. The swim up rooms, if you fancied that, are right at the bottom near the beach, as far away from any noise as you can get.

There is an outdoor eating area, too, which stops the restaurant having that noisy, canteen like feeling that a lot of AIs have.

We put in a special request for our room to be near the facilities and that’s what we got, so I’m sure if you wanted a quiet one they’d do that too.

We stayed at the blue lagoon resort in Kos last year and was great - a separate water park with enough slides to keep my 9 year old happy as well as a lazy river and splash park.

The main pool was busy but there were other smaller pools around the grounds that were quiet.

For breakfast and lunch we ate at the smaller buffets and they were both fine and in the evening either one of the al a carte or went out, a nice walk to Kos town with lots of choice.

There were kids clubs and evening entertainment but we didn't join in tended to play card games and have a drink in one of the smaller hotel bars

FusionChefGeoff · 26/06/2023 20:42

There's some wonderful AI properties - they're not all Sangria at dawn and karaoke 24/7 Grin

What's your budget??? As the quieter, classier ones will be more expensive.

You may need to travel slightly outside of the hotel for a decent water park though..

Might be worth speaking to an independent travel agent? They take commission from the holiday companies so it's free for you
