Should I base myself in Tampa or Orlando?

I'm thinking of going to visit a friend in Florida next year. I couldn't make her upcoming wedding unfortunately but I'd like to visit her in the future.

She lives on the Space Coast. I don't want to take all of her time up so I want to do some other things too. It's just going to be me and a mutual friend so no kids.

Would you base yourself in Orlando or Tampa? I quite like theme parks but I'm not especially fussed about visiting them.

TIA

Orlando is far closer to the Space Coast.

I should add that though Tampa is much further away, I also have a friend in St Pete so it'd be nice to see her too.

Orlando is about half way between the two, and there are rail links from Orlando to Tampa.

I'm currently at St Petes beach, Fl. Much quieter than Orlando as you can see, but it 8.30am and does get a little busier(was more so on the weekend). Only thing with Tampa is direct UK flights are limited. BA from Gatwick or Virgin from Heathrow.

Less than 2 hour drive too Orlando.

(Virgin are using their modern A330 on this leg).

Tampa. But I’m somewhat biased.
