Yes have been to Tel Aviv - was def roasting in August. Was years ago though and was staying in youth hostels so don't know how useful I could be. Liked it - funny mix of European city and traditional arab old parts - lovely city beach.

I just had a holiday in January - complete surprise organised by my best friend, - we took my dds to Tenerife which was lovely as got some winter sun!

Israel is beautiful - I spent a year there and just loved it, but the security issues are not good.

Me! I've been to Haifa and Tel Aviv.

It was in the 90s, with Jewish friends.

It is roasting at the time of year you propose to go, but air-conditioned and well worth the trip.

I went on Easter break, it was in April that year. And it was plenty warm.

It is beautiful and I highly recommend the journey.

thank ye. boco your best friend sounds like a star! expat that sounds very positive. i'm ok in heat as a rule so i wont let it put me off if i can. i'm so excited! i was concerned about security issues myself. friend poopoos my worries but think i may need to research it a bit more myself first. embarrassingly ignorant of current affairs . it looks like such a special place.

i'll admit, i found the food challenging at the time.

but we did wind up eating very well and it was a good trip.

of course, i'd go just about anywhere.

mamalovesmojitos · 23/02/2008 00:12

i haven't been very far, just britain, ireland, spain, france and belgium. but looking to dip my toes in further afield! travel is so good for the soul isn't it? i rarely find food challenging so that wont be a problem for me . must sleep now so i'm ready for dd's ballet in the morn. i'll post if i have any more progress on the trip. planning is a lot of the fun...hope you're making your own plans too.

I did a kibbutz (by Haifa expat )and I loved it. Its is an amazing place - excellent public transportation, vibrant, I would love to go back.

Love love love the falafels

expatinscotland · 23/02/2008 00:44

i lived off falafels, humus and pitta

oh, and Mars bars.

i stayed with the families of pals and they stayed on and spent time in kibbutz.

wouldn't trade the experience for the world.

purpleduck · 23/02/2008 14:16

Me too. I would love for my kids to travel when they get older.

But they're not allowed to get up to the same things I did

Pimmpom · 25/02/2008 12:43

Ah you are bringing back good memories. Worked on a kibbutz for a couple of months.

Ahhh the falafels....yummy (probably the only thing I could afford, soooo cheap)

We travelled about after the kibbutz. Stayed with a friend in Netanya.

Travelled down to Sharm el Sheik which belonged to Israel at the time. That was weird going back to Sharm a couple of years ago - the first time I went, there was just a shack on the beach hiring out snorkles. Bit different now

Happy days......
