Disneyland Orlando

Teslaspaceship · 25/06/2023 20:06

DH and I have saved for roughly 2 years for Disneyland in Orlando, ds and dd absolutely love all things Disney so thought it would be holiday of a lifetime.

Was discussing this with some of the other school mums today at a park meet up and only a couple of them had been but both said they (and everyone else they knew who had been!) caught norovirus there and were in bed for at least 3 days of the holiday. They said it's pretty much standard there and 'just how it is'.

Is this correct?? DH has a bowel condition that puts him in a really bad way if he gets unwell, just wondering if we ought to factor this in?!

Help!

I’ve been multiple times and never heard of this. I’m in a Disney Orlando planning group and never heard of it either.

Bananaman123 · 25/06/2023 20:15

Been 20+ times and never had or nor any of family had it, very strange

Lovingitallnow · 25/06/2023 20:23

Never ever or any of my family and we've been loads of times.

Snowdropsarelovely · 25/06/2023 20:24

Been 5 times and never been ill ! And I have friends that go every single summer and as far as I am aware they have never been ill either

ScoobyBooby · 25/06/2023 20:31

Been a few times to Orlando didn’t get sick once … maybe a bit of the green eyed monster !

bibbityboppityboo · 25/06/2023 20:32

I've gone to Orlando so many times and never caught this - what on earth were they doing?! 😂

BigRedsBalloon · 25/06/2023 20:34

I’ve been going to Disney World since the 80’s and I’ve never experienced this. Was there 6 months ago and didn’t catch anything.

FloweryName · 25/06/2023 20:34

Never been a problem for us on multiple trips, nor have I hear of it being a problem for anyone else. You do have to go out of your way to make the effort if you want to eat healthily and I always come back feeling huge and craving vegetables.

KarmaIsMyBF · 25/06/2023 20:35

I've been a few times and never experienced this

Watchthedoormat · 25/06/2023 20:37

Who the hell would say that to a mum looking forward to going to Disney with her family?
Utter prats.
They're trying to put a downer on this for you.

TellerTuesday · 25/06/2023 20:43

We've been to Orlando many times since I was a child and none of us have ever been ill.

I did actually get food poisoning once in Egypt, doesn't mean I tell anyone that's booked a holiday to go there about it.

People are so weird

Teslaspaceship · 25/06/2023 20:44

Oh my god, thank you so much everyone!

Really reassuring 🩷 am going to go back to planning and looking forward to it now.

Much appreciated.

Enjoy planning your trip. That’s half the fun. There are some good Disney planning videos on YouTube. I’m addicted to them 😀

HappiDaze · 25/06/2023 20:58

Make sure his bowel condition is on your travel insurance as they are real buggers re the small print over there re insurance cover

RaisinforBeing · 25/06/2023 21:00

Well my family did catch Norovirus from Peppa Pig World in the UK. Seriously though, WDW Florida is probably the best theme park experience in the world. What killjoys your friends are!

tanstaafl · 25/06/2023 21:26

Did they mean EuroDisney OP?

Teslaspaceship · 25/06/2023 22:42

@tanstaafl No, we were definitely talking about Orlando, I don't think they've been to the Paris park.

I've not heard of this but when I was in Disneyworld and I a D&V bug for 24 hours that came out of nowhere.

GruffalosGirl · 25/06/2023 22:46

We never had it when we went and I spent a year pretty much constantly on the dibb forums before we went and never saw it mentioned once there either. The dibb is like Mumsnet for Disney, so I'm sure it would've been mentioned if it was a thing.

Theawkwardblonde · 25/06/2023 22:46

Been to Orlando and Disney world 5 times. Caught nothing 🤷🏼‍♀️ you'll have a fab time - don't let people put a downer on your holiday.
Don't really know of anyone getting it there either.

Star81 · 25/06/2023 22:49

Also, just to ensure you buy your park tickets correctly it’s Disneyworld in Orlando. I’ve seen people on Facebook groups realise they’ve bought tickets for Disneyland not realising it’s the California one. If you book as a package they will ensure it’s all ok x

Intemperatefatty · 27/06/2023 19:57

Please ensure you book the correct park tickets - Disneyworld is in Orlando, Disneyland is in California (or Paris). It’s a very expensive mistake to make if you’re not careful.

We have been holidaying at WDW since 2000, stayed in most of the resorts and eaten extensively both onsite and offsite. I’m also a long-standing member of a number of Disney focussed websites and forums and have never heard or experienced this. It’s not a thing.

However, there are thousands of restaurants in Orlando so it’s possible that they picked a particular dodgy place to eat which I suppose could happened anywhere. Personally, I’d avoid the ultra cheap and nasty buffet type places like Golden Corral and Ponderosa but I’ve never heard of people getting ill from there.

Ignore them; and go and have your amazing holiday. You really don’t need to

Intemperatefatty · 27/06/2023 19:58

worry (posted too soon!)

jfshu · 27/06/2023 20:04

We've been 3 times and never got a stomach bug. I think whenever you're somewhere busy the chances are higher (be that Florida, or any theme park, public transport etc), and I am paranoid about it on holiday so I am much more careful with washing hands and anti-bac etc when on holiday, or busy places.
