October half term DC 12 and 10 recommendations?

Hi all we have never been abroad in October half term but circumstances mean this is our only possibility this year.

Does anyone have any recommendations for us ?

DC will be fairly easy going but pool / beach would be ideal.
With some other sightseeing/ activities available ideally.

Also what sort of budget do we need to ideally get some autumn sunshine ?
Do we need to look at canaries or are there other options with a decent chance of warm and dry weather?

For two weeks in France last summer we spent over £6k - really hoping it would be doable for less than £3k !

All ideas welcome

Canaries, Crete, Rodhes

You need to book tickets in advance and accommodation to try to get better deals. I would say 6 months at least. Also go self catering, a mix of eating out, home cooking, picnics and activities. Think you can do it for 3k for a week.

I’d be looking at Canaries tbh. Where would you be flying out from?

timefornewme2023 · 23/06/2023 12:22

Thanks both will have a look at canaries but having look at how late half term is this year I am slightly wondering if I am setting myself up for weather angst / disappointment!

Also perhaps the best deals will be already gone long ago.

Hmmm enjoying having a look round am also looking at some other destinations from other threads for future reference too.

I’ve been to Lanzarote twice in December and the weather was nice (20-25 degrees). I’m sure you’ll be fine in October.

If it's Europe that you want, then the Canaries will be the safest bet for a warm week. I've been to Cyprus in Oct half-term and it can be 28 degrees, sunny and glorious, but it can also be rainy and cool, as can anywhere in the Med.

If you're prepared to go somewhere a bit more exotic then Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Dubai, Oman, etc are also options.

Egypt will be warm enough and within budget

Thanks for the extra replies I realised I didn't answer where we were travelling from - ideally Birmingham but could do Bristol or London f we needed to.

DH and I did Egypt quite a few times pre DC so could look at that.

You should be able to get one of the Canaries for £3k at half term in October. We looked at booking in October but as half term falls late for us, the kids wanted to stay at home for halloween. Jet2 had the best options when we looked and they fly from Birmingham.

cherryassam · 23/06/2023 16:18

The Canary Islands are usually decent weather in October, but obviously it’s not as guaranteed as earlier in the season. It’s also always worth checking on if the facilities at hotels are affected by it being almost the last week of the season.

As PP says, Jet2 from Birmingham is probably the way to go. At half terms, look at Friday evening flights or Sunday flights rather than Sat flights, if the timings work.

Have a look at:
Paradise Park, Los Cristianos, Tenerife
GF Isabel, Costa Adeje, Tenerife
Fuentepark Apartments, Corralejo, Fuertaventura
Las Marismas Apartments, Corralejo
Las Adelfas, Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote
Costa Sal Suites, Puerto del Carmen

we are going to Lisbon, but staying outside near the beach in an air bnb. Will be able to get the train in for a mooch and also hange out by the coast.
