If you had a motorhome and 9 days holiday, and could explore anywhere in Britain, where would you go?

Looking for recommendations of where to explore, and where is a must see in our beautiful country!

Yorkshire dales! Do you have children? If you do and end up in the Yorkshire dales 'the forbidden corner' is an amazing day out!

Also Forrest of Bowland, Peak District.

ohsuzannah · 22/06/2023 13:31

The Gower coast 😍

MarkWithaC · 22/06/2023 13:35

North-west coast of Scotland and/or Shetland.

or Northumberland.

BadGranny · 22/06/2023 13:38

Peak District. Wynnat’s Pass, just outside Castleton, is the most beautiful place I have ever been.

*live in Cornwall

I expect you love in Cornwall too. Or at least I hope so! 😅

NC500 can’t cope with the amount of traffic. It’s shocking. Makes me sad.

We traveled the route by car before it was an official route and was quiet. It was beautiful.

I'm Scottish and wanted to show MIL and DH more of Scotland.

Motor homes are too large to work on those sorts of roads and should really be far more restricted. It is a shame what has been allowed to happen recently.

lakesummer · 22/06/2023 13:52

The Yorkshire Dales also aren't suitable for motor homes.
The problem with many of these scenic areas is that they have narrow roads or single track roads.

It is very different to the USA where there are much larger straighter roads so motor homes don't cause such problems.

redfacebigdisgrace · 22/06/2023 13:57

@lakesummer totally agree. Scottish here too.

weebarra · 22/06/2023 14:00

I think Dumfries and Galloway are very underrated.
DH's family live in a tiny seaside village just off the NC500 and it has made life difficult for many locals. Truly beautiful part of the world though.

ScribblingPixie · 22/06/2023 14:02

West Wales coastline.

NeverendingCircus · 22/06/2023 14:05

The Highlands!
Glen Affric is probably the most beautiful place I've ever seen.

If you are coming from the South you get to go through the Lakes (gorgeous) and Northumberland - wild and stunning – on your way. That would be a wonderful trip.

Scottishskifun · 22/06/2023 14:05

Personally Aberdeenshire and Moray coast up to Inverness then across the hills to near Aviemore and back through Royal deeside.

It's a lot quieter, more underrated area (miles upon miles of sandy beaches) and no midges so evenings are lovely if dry!

Kent and Surrey.

cassiatwenty · 22/06/2023 18:54

Bath!

midsomermurderess · 23/06/2023 16:34

Motor homes and the NC500. Everything that locals hate. Blocking narrow roads, obstructing emergency vehicles. Putting little back into communities they pass through, emptying their toilets on the road side.

ItsReallyOnlyMe · 23/06/2023 16:43

I would agree with Glen Affric being the most beautiful (although the midges are a pain).

Parts of the Pembrokeshire coast are very beautiful as well.

emmetgirl · 23/06/2023 16:51

@gogomoto

Another vote for Shetland here. Beautiful place

LegendsBeyond · 23/06/2023 16:55

Sussex and Kent. Lots of history & beautiful walks. Great wine & food too.

Bamboozles · 23/06/2023 18:27

Hawkers Cove, near Padstow, Cornwall 😍

Newtrix · 23/06/2023 18:39

The Northumberland 250!

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 23/06/2023 18:45

The NC500 is beautiful with so much to see but it’s like a conveyor belt these days with so many tourists that it’s kinda unworkable. All the best cafes/sites”must do’s” are totally mobbed.

Id do the east coast. Whitby, Northumberland, and if time performs East Neuk of Fife, Crail Elie etc

I've heard so much of this. Nc500 was our original plan, but we aren't going to do it as we don't want to add to the problem

Bath is gorgeous, but we were there just last weekend

Yorkshire dales & Peak District

midsomermurderess · 23/06/2023 18:58

The East Neuk, as another poster says, is lovely, really delightful. But again, motor homes are big and the roads are pretty small.
